Thread: Vinyl hit by seagulls, what to use?

  1. Vinyl hit by seagulls, what to use?

So my vinyl was perfect on my 13 R20, leave the cover off ONE NIGHT and those damn rats of the sea coated it. I've used a couple mild cleaners and it just won't take off the yellow spots. Any suggestions on what I should use to scrub and what cleaner to use? I could see if the crap sat there for a couple weeks but one night and it stains?

Check the boat's manual. They list various products suitable for your vinyl and more importantly what NOT to use.

I don't have the manual as I bought it used with 30 hours on it.

I swear by Boat Bling's Vinyl Sauce and a Soft scrub brush... Some people will use 303 protectant as well after a good cleaning.. In the seams I follow with a spray bottle with just water to make sure no chemicals are left behind.. No matter how safe a product says it is.. I don't trust 'em.. lol

    The manuals are here:
    http://tigeowners.com/downloads/Tige_OM_web.pdf
Interiors starts on page 7-3 and 7-4 even has a listing for bird droppings :-)
Page 7-5 lists the stuff that's safe and the stuff that's NOT safe.
    Good luck

Boat bling wont take the yellow out...

Toothpaste for the win... Just a small amount goes a long way, make sure you have something to wipe it off with right after.

Used it for years, works wonders..

  11. Thanks all I'll look into all of those. And about the altoids, trust me I'm tempted to offer my neighbor who duck hunts a little extra for each gull skull this fall. He's probably crazy enough to do it.

  12. One of my friends reside near the coastline and Seagulls are the major problem there. They are popularly known as "dumpster diving" bird. Seagulls landed into his boat and leave their droppings behind, which creates even more trouble. It ruined the boat finish and building materials. He decided to consult the pest control Dixon CA to lend him a helping hand. They instructed him to use birds spiders and special boat bases which allow you to use the spider on masts, canvas covers, and Biminis. A solar bird repeller is a great product to use on canvas covers, Biminis and boat decks. Lastly, always take the preventive measures!

LA's Totally Awesome Vinyl Cleaner (dollerama store) which is a knock off of Malco. Really good at getting dirt and stains out. I agree, wipe with a damp rag to remove residue and then apply your 303 or equivalent.
