Giving off a smell is a good sign that something bad is going on. I think 500W may be a bit much when tuned low like at 80Hz. Just an FYI, the cross-over filter on the IX series is a 3 position slide switch, not a push button. I would just double check that its in the Hi-Pass (middle) and not to the left on Off. One with an issue would be odd but plausible, but both with an issue doesn't sound like a speaker defect.

Am I reading correctly from your "Power" thread, that the Rev-8's are powered by a single IX500.2 amp, not one amp for each, like the Rev-10's?
