    New rev 10s DEAD

Well within the 2 weeks of owning them there fried already! Hope this is a flaw in the speaker other wise Im far from impressed. My pro 80s/60s and 485 had the same power to them and never had any issues.. My rev8s also have the same amps on them and no issues..

I will keep you guys informed with the results! $1,000 bucks for 4 uses not so good!

what amp did you have running them?

We have had very little if any issues with the REV's on defects on the drivers. So for a set to blow like that, something must be up.

Our demo boat has two pairs off two SYN-4 for 400x2 and we play them, HARD. They are the first sets we built and we have been rocking the same ones since and not one issue

Give Gyver a call at the office 877-938-7757. He can get you an RA to ship the drivers back and see what happened to them and a solution on what we can do. And help you figure out whats up.

I have 4 kicker IX500.2s One to eack rev10 and rev8. Gains on the amps are set to 1/8 up 80hrz high button pressed on. I have tommys send them back in. I also had one of there empoyees out with me and he can vouche we were not even playing them hard.. They put off a weird smell from the second I turned them on! The rev8s still play great!

Giving off a smell is a good sign that something bad is going on. I think 500W may be a bit much when tuned low like at 80Hz. Just an FYI, the cross-over filter on the IX series is a 3 position slide switch, not a push button. I would just double check that its in the Hi-Pass (middle) and not to the left on Off. One with an issue would be odd but plausible, but both with an issue doesn't sound like a speaker defect.

Yes sir =) with two rev 8s and two rev10s and three amps too them sould do the trick
Am I reading correctly from your "Power" thread, that the Rev-8's are powered by a single IX500.2 amp, not one amp for each, like the Rev-10's?

They where I changed it and added another amp. The cross over switch is set to high and the hex at 80 is what the dude at wet sounds recommend. As for too much amp the dude I talked to at wet sounds I talked to before buying the amps said that would be a great amp and would make them sound killer. I mean its not like I had 1000 watts to each.

Guessing the don't handle power like the pro series did

having the gains set too high means that they don't handle distortion, not that they don't handle power.

Gain setting has little to do with the wattage an amp produces

A gain is not a volume knob or power knob. it does not make the amp put out more power the higher it is turned up. the higher the gain is the faster the volume ramps up based on the level. past a certain point "unity" setting, you get into an issue with clipping the amp easier. When running a lot of power, you have to be very careful with the tuning and set up and distortion.

when running more power you gain headroom as you are able to run the gain down a little so the amp does not have to work so hard and you get a lot of power on demand.

You can clip the signal from the head unit or eq into the amp. So the entire system as a whole needs to be looked at. from the source unit and settings. Flat on the head unit. No eq boost on a ipod, what downloads formats and compression the songs are at, eq settings, amp settings, gain settings. You can compound an issue with bad downloads from an ipod with treble boost or bass boost on sending that to a head unit with bass or treble boosted with a head unit at max volume sending a clipped signal to an amp. The amp is then set with the gain all the way or really high up, then the bass boost is on, then crossover too low or set to full range and so on. All of these can compound the issue. The speaker is at the end of the line and does what it is told to do. It reproduces the signal sent to it.

So if all or part of that is going on. Then you can blow a driver. No matter how much power a driver can handle, speakers cannot take distortion.

Too much power can and will blow drivers but 9 times out of 10 is is from the set up and not from over powering. which is why you always here the saying you are more likely to blow a speaker with too little power than too much. This is because with too little power, everyone wants more volume than what the power they have can give. So the gains are maxed out and the signal is maxed out trying to get that volume not knowing that it is not putting out more power, just clipping and getting louder faster. when running more power to a speaker, the gains wind up being lower because the amp can give more power. They are usually lower than the unity setting so putting out less power but since it is so much power, you gain that dynamic headroom and clarity. So less distortion.

I don't listen to music if it's distorting I spent all the dough on my audio and like clarity. I have rims of money in all of our cars systems home system and garage system and boat system. Im not that guy who rails my stock speaker to where u can't hear what the hell is playing. I had one of Tommys slalom shop out with us and he will tell u the same this where no where near turned up. And believe me id burn the boat to the ground before I listened to a speaker that was sounding like ****. Just really weird the rev 8s are working flawlessly and are now tan off the two amps that blew the 10s. Switched em in the water thinking it was the amps. No smells fromthem and worked great for our morning set today. I've had these all season
