What is this hose for?

I looked at my motor yesterday and saw this hose laying on top of my motor (left side). The first picture shows the hose in my hand, the 2nd picture shows where it was laying.

I assume it's some sort of drain hose, but not sure what it's for.

Also, is this the best place for it, or should it lay in the bildge under the motor?

Remote Oil drain.

I would say just leave it where it is.

most likely it's your oil drain hose. You would pull that through your drain plug and let it drain (takes forever) or get some kind of suction device to suck the oil out.

I dont understand some of you guys. Most change their oil at the end of the season... Why should you be in such a rush to put your boat away? :D

Run the engine, get it nice and hot. Pull out of the water and let er drain. Go crack open a cold one, start the BBQ... Watch Desperate Housewives... Its not like it takes ALL day.

Thanks for the feedback. I would have never guessed that's for the oil. I would also think it would bounce around right there, and may end up someplace "not very safe", but what do I know. I pay WWS to do my oil changes.

Maybe just zip-tie it to a harness or something, should be ok.

I just bought my 2000 21v last year and am changing the oil. It looks like Merc is recommending 20w40 full synthetic. Any opinions on this?

Also, does anyone know a good source for a factory service manual?

Bought ours a little over 2 years ago and haven't come across any Tige factory service manuals.
I have been able to find info about each of the systems Tige installed.
If it's mainly the engine your interested in there is a Mercury Service Manual Number 24 that covers the engine (#24 90-861327--1 1998+ Engines - GM V8 305 & 350 CID).
I found an almost new one on ebay for a good price.
I have a list of all the part no.s I have been able to find if you are interested.

I owned a SeaRay for about 9 years before buying the Tige and I had the factory manual for it and it was awesome. I feel naked without one for this boat and don't like the Seloc manuals. I will look up the individual manuals for the systems and see what is out there based on the links and numbers you all have posted.

I may be putting a PSS seal on the shaft for my boat and/or my friends Moomba V drive and haven't found anyone on the site that has documented the procedure so I will post pics and my experience when I do it.

Have not installed one myself since my boat has the PSS seal, but came across these tutorials when researching to see if there is any required seal maintenance.

I could be way off base here, but I think the reason the drain hose is routed to the top of the motor is so that if the hose is breached or the fitting comes loose, you don't dump your engine oil in the bilge and fry your engine. :02:
