Tube ones or paddle wheel?

Check if the tubes are clogged, or the paddle wheel is blocked.

They are located on the transom btw.

Make sure the gauges have 12V and good grounds at the posts on the back.

One of them is probably of the type with a vacuum hose from the back of the gauge to the fitting on the transom. As water passes by the transom fitting a vacuum is created in the hose which deflects the speedometer needle. Make sure the fitting is positioned downward into the the water. The hose from the gauge to the transom fitting might go thru a gold colored tube about 6" long and 3/4" OD mounted on the inside of transom. I don't remember what it actually does, but it might dampen the vacuum signal in the hose. Check the hose for cracks or kinks all the way from inside the transom to the gauge. You could hook up a handheld vacuum pump to the gauge to see if the needle deflects.

If one of the gauges uses a paddlewheel for a sensor you can spin the wheel by flicking it and get about 5-10 MPH. I tried that with a Perfect Pass before installing it.

Oops, only a speedo that uses a paddle wheel sensor or GPS would need 12V and GND.
A vacuum speedo only needs power for the light.

Sorry man... Gotta do it... WHAT YOU TALKING ABOUT WILLIS? :D

When I had my 1997 2150, the speedo never worked. We tried alot and even changed the gauges. We installed Perfect pass and used the speedo on that device.

There are or should be twos speedo pickups on the transom of the boat, like my picture. First they have to be in a downward angle. They snap up incase they hit some thing. There is a small hole at the end that takes in water. Sometimes there is small debris there. The water goes up through tubes all the way to the speedometers. there could be clogging issues there as well. To clear the tubes I remember a very old thread that said to use very low air pressure to clear the tubes. NOT an air compressor. If the gages are bad, I don't know what to say. You can't get them anymore. YOu could replace it with a newer electric type one, maybe have those rebuilt somewhere, or I have seen them on ebay.

I found the thread I mentioned searching for "Airguide Speedometer"

What? I just bought tons of stock in Pontiac!

That's the last time I take stock advice from the meth head who sells steaks door to door...

replacing the pickup assembly on my 97 PRE 2150 got BOTH speedos working. weird.......

The more modern paddle wheel set ups work better, assuming the paddlewheel is located correctly on the hull. Me, I don't care for drilling big holes in the bottom of my boat.

Of course, the ballers just use GPS:cool:
