New to Me 1998 Pre 2200 V WT

Well I just put down a deposit on a "new" 98 Pre 2200V. Going to take it for a test drive tomorrow. Anything I should specifically look for? From my inspection, it looks pretty nice for a 10 year old boat.

Also, anyone have any idea on the max passenger capacity on this? My guess is 12 but I could not find the USCG plate

Make sure all the gauges and options function the way they are supposed too.Alot of times stuff will be over looked in the excitment like a gauge not toggling or a clip broken off.
Check the vdrive fluid for color and smell along with the engine and vdrive oil.
You should be abe to get a good indication of the boats condition with your test drive just take your time.

Well, I just bumbled on it on web archive. Looks like it will seat up to 12 :) As an added bonus it has a 50 gallon tank

Needless to say I'm pretty excited to try it out tomorrow

I have the 97 version and I love mine. I would say 8 is the max you would ever want in it if you desire comfort. Normally 6 works out just right. Look forward to some pics :ro:

If you can, bring an extra set of eyes, a friend who knows boats and will look at it without the excitement factor clouding judgement. I'm with formandfunction, check everything.

Check the prop for dings
open and close everything
check to make sure taps works properly - gauge
check the belts if possible to see if there are frays
push every button and switch and make sure everything comes on
check the lights - navigation and the 360 light to make sure they work
ask when the last time impeller / steering cable / throddle cable has been replaced
For trailer, check for wood rot on bunks and check the carpet, make sure all the lights work, if it has disc brakes, check the fluid reservior

Great list. I would have a qualified mechanic check out the engine and all moving parts. They'll typically charge you $100-$150, but you'll know what's what with the boat.

I have a boat close to that and can assure you 12 is a little steep. First trip out with her I had around ten people in it, coolers, ect. and just about sunk her the first time i slowed her down. Eight max.

Make sure to look at the engine closely when its running.
Look for leaks, steam coming from odd places.
Check the fluids, tranny, vdrive, engine and TAPS.
Also, make sure its not already warm when you first start it. That will give you an idea of how it starts cold.

After you've run it around the lake a bit, and its good and warm, shut it off and let it sit for 5-10 mins, then start it again. It should start easily in both scenarios.

If the motor/drive train is solid, thats the biggest thing.

** Note - I've got the 97 2150, so a little smaller. I've had 11 in mine, 5 being kids, and that was PLENTY!!
