Just brought home our first ski boat! A 1994 2000 SLM Comp. 392 Hrs. Black w/ a light blue stripe. Pics to come soon. :ro:
I'm happy, my wife's happy, and the kids are extatic. It's sure a step up from our old Crestliner. I'm just happy that I can stop searching the internet for a new boat. Now I get to shop for accessories!
We plan on using it as a family boat with the caveat I get to wakeboard and surf too. It'll take some time getting used to how the boat handles compared to previous boats.

Very nice!
As far as driving, slow and steady, with small corrections. Dont forget it will pull to the right when in reverse.
Hope you and your family enjoy it! :ro:

Congrats! Is the first inboard you've owned? If so, practice, practice, practice!

Good boat to start with, when you learn to drive it you will find that you will be able to teach kids to get up sking with the use of the trottle and that will make it more fun for your kids when they have a buddie to ski with.

Another old schooler. How many is that this year? 4? 5? We get maybe 2 a year that are new to Tige with a '99 or older. Old Tiges never die, they just become first time inboards for smart shoppers.
Get some pics up of that daddy. '94 you say? That was Tige's second full year?

Oh I got pics now! Pics of the cracked head that is. What looked like a leaky riser gasket was actually a cracked head. I'll be getting a compression tester and check the cylinders and then fashion up something to do a leak-down pressure check on the cooling system. I thinking about pulling the bad head an making a "blank" gasket with no cooling passages and reinstalling the head. Then removing the thermostat housing and pressurizing the system. Oh, and "Yes" there was water in the oil.
The good news is the new Kenwood head unit is on it's way as is the new Kicker sub too. I hope I get a chance to install them.

Looks like I'm not just replacing the heads. Just a new long block.
I pulled the intake and found a crack in the valley between cylinders #1 and #3. I plan on ordering a reman long block on Monday and getting the install started b4 the weekend.
Anyone know any pointers on aligning the prop shaft?

You could look at the bright side of this, you will now have a new engine and should feel comfortable knowing that.

 I dont understand what you're asking? A "long block" is an engine block with heads, a short block is just the assembled block (crank, pistons, rods, cam) w/o heads. Nothing to do with physical dimensions or displacement, is that what you mean?

I found out for $100 more I can upgrade to the 300HP engine. I think I have the 265HP now. (Mercruiser Magnum Tournament Comp, non EFI) 35HP more can never hurt.

Congrats on the purchase but sorry to hear about the cracked block. It is great that you have the capability to fix the problem. Many owners don't.
I would spend the extra $100 to get over the hp mark. In the long run having the increased power should save on fuel expense and make the boat perform out of the hole shot in less time. 265 hp might be good when boat has only a couple of people but when you are carrying a full tank of fuel and lots of friends you will feel underpowered. You can tell the difference between even the current 315hp-320hp motors vs the 340hp Marines Power which is the norm and not exception with current model years prior to 2009 when Tige went to PCM. When we bought ours we tested 320hp and 340hp motors and could feel the difference in hole shots as well as acceleration. We tested with 5 adults on board with an avg weight of 190 per passenger. Both boats where 20V's one a 2006 demo boat and my current 2007 20V. Both boats were propped with ACME 537's
I hope you get her back together soon so you can enjoy the short season in your area.

He just wants the 300HP so he has more HP than me :D
For $100 bux I'd do the same. Is the new one EFI?? Or are you gonna slap the existing carb on it?

The 300HP comes with a 7yr/500hr warranty and is $2245 delivered.
The 265HP comes with a 2yr/unlimited hour warranty and is $2243 delivered.
It's really only a $2 difference.
Pretty simple math.

We just finished bolting in and test running the new 300HP beast! It took about 12-13 hours. Oil pan was put on and off about three times (don't ask) and had the timing backwards. Other than that it was pretty straight forward. Pics to come.
It sounds awesome, just need to get her to the lake and break it in!:D
Thanks a ton Joel (Jleger98)!

It was a blast! How often do you get to tear apart an old engine, and put togehter a new one and hear it run, all in the same day? All I'll say about the oil pan is to make sure you're looking at the right column in the book for torque specs.
The thing does sound really mean too.

It wasn't the wrong column, it was the wrong row. Besides "Connecting Rod Cap Bolts" and "Main Bearing Caps Bolts" both have the work Cap and both should say F'ing tight.
Were we supposed to use the foot-pound wrench or the inch-pound wrench?;)

Broke the new engine in tonight on Lake Elmo. Ran it slowly (600-1000 RPM)for 15-20 minutes and then opened 'er up. Sweeeet! I did however figure out I forgot to tighten the water line from the tranny cooler to the engine; that popped off when we were idling around. :o I figured that out pretty quick as water was running out from the front of the engine cover. Bilge pump works! Ran around the lake for an hour and watched some guys do some boarding and surfing to show my wife & the kids what it's all about.
The old Jeep pulled the boat out of the water just fine in 2wd. I found out the winch is shot; as soon as you put a load on it the gears just skip. So I had to back all the way in to get the boat up to the winch. I just pulled forward inch by inch until the guide posts were out of the water, then past the rub rail, and finally the boat was centered, and pulled out. I figured I was going to be one of "those guys" at the boat landing. Not today.
The stereo is loud and clear when boat is planing and you can still feel the sub too.
We saw another Tige' was out there too; a red Pre2200wt w/ the factory tower. I pulled by and said "Hi".
All in all it was a great evening! Gotta get out again soon!

Just read this post. Glad to hear everything worked out great. I've got just about the same boat (mines a 1995 and doesn't have the big motor:bo:) and love it.
Lets see some pictures of it.

Great looking boat. I like the contrast between the light blue and black.
Wonder if the former owner meant for the numbers to be arranged like that!

1st... New boat numbers.
2nd... Fresh Air Exhaust. I think I got the OK from my wife today. As long as I keep the boat longer than the last two.
3rd... I got a lotta 3rds ;)
