I was wondering if anyone has any good recommendations for some campgrounds located at Lake Mead.

I am heading out to Vegas this weekend for another party, but wanted to check-out some campgrounds around the lake for future trips.

Any recommendations?

Here are a couple of websites to try out. The water level is low and some of the campsites are probably pretty far from the water's edge. There is a hotel/casino very close to the dam called the Hacienda (800-245-6380) that is affordable.

I'm planning to head out to Vegas May 5th - 8th to catch the supercross finals and do some boarding @ Mead.

Is the lake still really low?
Any tips on places to avoid?
What's the best place to get some calm water out there?

I don't know of any specific place(s) to avoid. The water will be low I'm sure. It will also be a lillte chilly in May. The place we have the most success is a place called The Wall. It is near the Hoover Dam and blocks the wind. It is long enough for a good run. You will find most tournament boats hanging out in this area. I will try and attach a photo where the wall is located. I labelled The Wall in the bottom right of the picture. You can launch at Lake Mead Marina or Calville Bay. There is a launch ramp called Hemminway that we used to launch at. It is so shallow you would need a large lifted truck to launch your boat.

I might dispute that its a little chilly in May. The air temperature is often in the 90's during the day in May. The water will still be warming up, but I suspect you'll be pretty comfortable. Two years ago, I went to Lake Mead on December 14 and the water temp was 60 degrees. It will get a little cooler than that, but Lake Mead never gets super cold.

With the recent floods in Southern Utah, Mead went up almost 7 feet in one week! It's still very low, but that Lake is so huge it's still very usable as long as you can launch.

Cool thanks guys that helps...I've just got a stock Chevy Tahoe, I know I'm not as cool as all the other guys in this area with a lifted F-350 but hey at least I can make it from my house to Parker, AZ towing the boat on one tank of gas.

Thanks again.

Since the water is down, Black Island connects to the shore. Stay on the west (left on the map) side. Even with 3-4 ft waves everywhere else you'll get good water there. Less boat wake than over by The Wall. Launch from Lake Mead Marina, Las Vegas Bay isn't there anymore
