Does anyone have insurance through Boat US? They have quoted me about $250 cheaper annualy than anyone else.

Need to do an apples to apples and compare the 2 policies REAL close. Pay close to what is includded and was is excluded.

To be honest, the premium amount needs to be the last thing you compare......find 2 or three companies that offer what you need in a policy, then go with the best!

I did compare same coverage.

I did compare same coverage.

Check the "Exclusions". See what is specifically left out (not covered) of each. Do they both offer Med Pay, Clean up/Fines for accidental discharge, what's the limit on recovery/salvage and is it a set limit or increasable?

I have my insurance through BoatUS and am very happy. They were almost $300 cheaper than what I got through State Farm, even being a customer with multiple lines on house, cars, fine art, etc. Comparing the two showed pretty much the same coverages, so I went with BoatUS.

Boat us is a great company to deal with. They are quite expensive in Florida, but all insurance is expensive here. I'd go with them in a heartbeat.

Try Progressive

I have gotten quotes from BoatUS and other major carriers and Progressived worked out to be cheapest for comparable coverage. Like mtnsmith said, I wouldn't fear using them if they gave you good quote.

I went with BoatUS rather than Progressive because my dealer said that Progressive had been the most difficult company he had dealt with to get approval for repairs. He had experienced a lot of trouble to get approval for work/parts that were associated with the main issue but maybe not as obviously damaged. I'm not sure if the difficulty was due to one individual or the company's typical procedures, but it was enough for me to go BoatUS instead.

Guys, I just have to say THANK YOU!!...I was reading this post this morning...(my boat insurance was with Progressive)..so I decided to call boatus just for kicks. I now have more coverage, lower deductible and and half the premium! Now I have to say this my experience with Progressive has been great, but for half the price(and more coverage) I had no choice but to change.

Thanks Again!!!!!

I would give Westmar a call also. Quite a few Tigé Owners use them.

I use them :02: Great to work with, customer support is outstanding, and fast claims processing... However, I think they are a little more expensive but I am willing to pay for an insurance company that is local. :02:

I have BoatUs and did some research of 3 other Ins Co's. BoatUs has more coverage dollar for dollar as compared to Allstate,Progressive and Statefarm. My coverage for the "Yacht" policy is $309 year. That was at minimum 250 less than the others I shopped.
BoatUs had coverage like accidental spill, salvage and a couple which was not included with the other 3.

Progressive quoted me $720. I just got some pretty comprehensive coverage from Boat US for $375. Boat US also had cheaper coverage than that, all the way down to $196 and that was still pretty good coverage.

I took aj's tip and called BoatUS on the first renewal for our 08 22ve and they spanked WestMar. Our renewal policy just came in at $683.00 and BoatUS qoute for exact coverage comparison (actually better) at $456.00.

Thanks aj for the tip!

I have 1 Jeep, 1 Mustang, 1 Tahoe, 1 house and the Tige through State Farm.
I am sure I can save some green going to another company for the boat but with the meds I am on they have screwed up my response timing and I have been in bumper to bumber stop, accelerate to 12 mph and slam breaks. I have lost that scenario 3-4 times in the last couple of years. 2 years ago I was in Mustang on a 4 lane road when Ambulance was heading to-wards me from opposite direction so I pulled off onto shoulder while trying to place a call. Because of distraction with phone and a bit with the ambulance I did not see a white Camry on the shoulder stopped even with a big white sign and I nailed brakes but smacked her hard enough to push her vehicle 30 yards into the grass. Thank goodness she was all right. I stuffed her whole rear end into the trunk and bent my hood, my plastic grill work and bent a fender. It amazed me on how little damage occurred to the Mustang.

Any way I no longer drive for 3 hours after I take pain med for my cluster headaches and will only call people on my cell who are in my voice dial or picture Icon entries. No more dialing while driving. Lessons learned.

I became a high risk driver after being clean for 25 or more years with State Farrm and my premium on my primary car went up $200 a year.

Boat insurance with SF is $75 more than American Family or Boat US but with the tower incident and how they covered it I won't change. Policies on all vehicles except my Jeep are very good. The only premium that went up was mine and that was reasonable. Other companies would have tanked me at two or three incidents. Premiums on Mustang and Tahoe went down since Mustang is weekend pleasure car and knock on weed my wife has been clean for all years with State Farm.

Bottom Line is State Farm costs a tad more on Boat coverage but there was no insurance issue getting it fixed when I needed them.

I just made the decision to go with Boat US, $215.00 cheaper. My State Farm agent informed me they couldn't change the premium. That is with a home, 3 cars, pontoon boat, Jet Ski, an umbrella policy and life insurance with them. I am looking at everything that demands my dollar and shopping for better deals. I don't just shop price, it has to be an informed decision.

I must have got ahold of the wrong BoatUS. They e-mailed me back w/ two quotes. One was through Progressive, and then some other company. Are they not their own underwriter?

Boat US all the way because they have a 20% discount if you had 0 claims after one year (and it's an honest / fair discount) Their finance dept will do all the paper work if your buying from an individual party out of state (or dealer). The next question is....switch from SeaTow to Boat US??

If anyone has AIG insurance, would you PLEASE cancel all your policy(s).

I just went through Progressive and got IMO a good deal. $350 for a year with a shrinking deductable of $100/year with out any claims and full road side service. They also have an agreed value that will stay the same through out. Which means I have no depreciation, so if the boat is totaled I get the amount I paid for it.
I did not have a lot of time to try Boat US but will next year.

I just re-wrote all my insurance - cars, houses, jet skis, boat through a friend. Savings were very surprising. Boat was written through Travellers, Jet Ski's through Progressive, all others through Kemper. Boat alone was $361 with $500 deductable and full replacement cost. Had to up the minimum liabbility so I was covered under my unbrella policy. That added $51 to the total for the boat.

What nobody is stating is their declared value and insurance values.

What are the liabilities?
Tailer?
Personal items?
Ect.....

For me everything was quoted at a higher value through Boat US than any other company and they still blew away the others. And no depreciation.

On a tip from a buddy with a boat (actually, his parents sank it but working with his insurance company was very straightforward) I went with Seahorse Underwriters. Their quote was much cheaper and covered more than what I was quoted by the underwriters that my car insurance company had me call. For stated value including the trailer and all the haz mat stuff, etc. it worked out to $250, granted, I have a slightly older boat. Hadn't heard about Boat US but my current quote didn't sound too bad to me.
