So I am interested to hear where and how much ballast people are using in 2001 21i for wake surfing?and wakeboarding? I have a couple ideas on how I want to weight the boat but I wanted to hear from all of you first. Don't want to go crazy and buy sac that I won't use. well any help would be greatly appreciated.
My Ideas
Wakeboarding- 400lbs (Fly High V-Drive sac) on each side of Motor. then 200-400lbs in walkway
Wakesurfing- if surfing left side move ride side 400lbs sac to rear. opposite for right side surfing
Thanks and have a Great DAY!

I have a 2000 21i, I one 370# sac filled to about 250# I guess under the back seat and 2-400# sacs in the back corner. I get an awesome wake, just remember one think in this year boat you need a full tank of gas to start out with. I load up the passengers side and ran out of gas at 1/2 tank. When I drained the sacs out it came back to 1/2 tank (this is how I know) but took awhile to start. I haven't tried sacs for wakeboarding yet, I am just learning to jump w/ the taps on now. Just cleared the wake last year for the 1st time. Hope this helps. Here is a pic of my wake, it hits me about at my waist.

Second on the full tank. I've done the same thing except I managed to suck up a chunk of something large enough to clog the fuel filter. It was the one and only time I needed to be towed back to shore. I always try to keep at least 200 up front but, 300-350 if you can get 500+ in the back corner of whatever side you want. TAPS all the way up.

Hey that looks like a nice wake. so you are not running any wait up front?? and how much in passenger weight would you say that you have in the boat?? Most of the time it is just a driver and spotter in the boat so. I need to make up for that other lost weight. Hey and thats Great about clearing the wake. I really don't know if I well even use the Fat Sac for wakeboarding. I get plent of air to do pretty much any trick that I want with just the taps on But I would like to see how the fat sac effect the wake. and if you want to wakesurf then you have to have the Sac.
I do not put any weight up front. I don't like taking water over the bow anymore. I almost sunk the boat w/ riders up there one time so I just don't do it anymore.
We usually have a driver and 4-5 others in the boat, but only 3 are in the back. One of us usually sits on the back left on the locker just to play or shoot each other w/ the water guns just to keep from getting bored. My rub rail is usually right at the water line on the weighted side. I have done it w/ just me and 1 other though. The wake is great so far, but the last time out I wasn't getting my normal hole shot. I had a 1 or 2 second hesitation. I figured it was loading up because it would run fine once it was going.
Nicky,
when you say your fuel filter got cloged, is that the fuel/separator just behind the driver (front of engine)? Is this the fuel filter on our boats, this is all I have found so far.
Send a pm to 18c racing. He has a 21i with a killer surfwave.

Granite my boat is newer it helps, my buddy has the same boat as yours and he puts a 750 in the walk through and a 750 in the rear it seems to be the hot ticket for that boat. If you need some ballest, shoot me a message and i can get you any size ballest bags you need. 18c:ro::ro:

There may be a difference between the 2000 and 2007 21' hulls, but an 07 DD will not have the Convex V hull that is found on the V-drives (hence the the name :D)

Um hate to ruin your party but the Convex V Hull refers to just that the "Hull" hence the Name Convex V "HULL" this has nothing to do with the drive of the boat. If it did you would think that would have called it a Convex V drive or Vdrive hull which it is not. The Hull of the boat is what ultimantly drives the shape of the wake.
this is stright from the tige.com web page this it the write up of the 20i
Serious skiers have heaped praise on this innovative 20 for its incredibly faint, clean wakes and creature comforts not usually found in a serious slalom boat. Now the all–new Tigé 20i delivers even more with a Tigé–plush interior, redesigned dash and striking gel coat scheme. No wonder it continues to be the boat of choice for TeamTigé pro skiers Jamie Beauchesne and Chris Rossi. But a quick adjustment of TAPS2 and riders in the boat will be grabbing their boards for the impressive ConvexV wake. Those still in the boat will be comfortable and dry with plush seating and the deepest freeboard of any 20–foot direct–drive
All Tige boat have a form of the Convex V hull on them as of late.

I think what he was trying to day is that the Convex V hull is different on the V-Drives than it is on the direct drives. The rockers on the V-Drives have gotten more pronounced over the years as they increasingly specialized more towards wakeboarding/wakesurfing instead of the all-purpose design of the older vintage V-Drives and Direct Drives.

Ok so I can't make up my mind between getting:
two sets of the V-drives sac (400 X 4 = 1600lbs) or
one set of V-Drives and one set of side sac (400x 2 + 260x 2 = 1320lbs).
It seems that if i go with just the v dirve sac 1600lbs is a little over kill for my boat. If I had a 05 22v that would be a diferent story. Will just wanted to hear what you all think before I put in a order thanks for the help.

First of all,you can never have to much weight when it comes to surfing,i think your choice on the bags will be awesome, add a few people in the boat as well and the wake will be sinister! The only prob youll run into is lack of floor space in your boat, but oh well its the price we all pay.:ro:

go w/1600 you can always move it around to find the perfect wave for your boat.

ten minutes after I posted that I decided to go with the 4 V-drive sacs. See my problem is that I don't go out with a boat full of people. I used to invent everyone under the sun and go out all the time with a boat full of peeps. but after none of them offered to give me gas money I stopped inviting all but the two that would throw for gas so now our riding crew is just the three of us which I like because I don't have to worry about some jack azz falling out of the boat. that and I wouldn't trust just any one to drive my boat. Because I lack the boat full of people I figured that just adding the extra weight via fat sac is what I am going to have to do. Will I when summer gets here and the lake unfreezes I will take pics and let everyone know how I end up setting up the ballast (where and how much weight).

I agree with you on all accounts. My rules are whomever is going out with us meets us at the gas station on the way out, gas and or beer nobody rides for free, works great no complaints yet. He who complains doesnt usually come back. After all you made the investment in the boat.:02::02:

Yep I saw a sticker on a boat once that said "My boat runs on gas not thanks". Yep I am the one that spent 20,000 Plus on a boat so that we all could have a good times the least you could do is put $10 of gas in it.
Hey I love the signature by the way. that would make a great T-shirt. :ro:

As a said earlier, I had 2 people in the bow once (both about 400-500#'s) and I would have sunk the boat if I wasn't paying attention. What is the trick not to take water over the bow w/ weight up front?
Nicky, you don't run as much weight - does that make it easier?

This is the driving tip I received personally from Nick Weinacker (Team Tige rider) while we were riding in the '03 22 i/r they were touring the country with at the time. As you come off plane (to pick up your rider), pull the throttle all the way back to the neutral position. Just as the boat drops into the water, turn the wheel all the way to the right/left (right works better on my LH prop) and give it a little bump forward. Then just wait for your wake to pass you by to pick up the rider. If you're in an area where there are lots of boat wakes coming from one side, turn the other way. If you're in an area where boat wakes are everywhere, adjust your TAPS to the highest position and give it enough power to raise the bow so you can plow through the wakes. The older boats, like ours, sit lower in the water, so the problem's even bigger when you run with ballast. Sometimes taking on water is simply unavoidable, but you can take steps to minimize the amount with a little anticipation.
I find myself adjusting my boat position in the water frequently to avoid being swamped.
Thanks,
Chp showed me some ways to avoid the wakes also, but when the water has a lot of boats out it gets hard. I can also use your ideas to. Do you stay throttled up until you get back to your rider? I don't like letting the boat settle w/ someone in the water and boats everywhere, it makes me nervous.
It is funny on the road I am very offensive but on the water I am very passive. I will always slow down, don't know why that is. At least my wife doesn't complain, it is funny to watch people in the passengers seat trying to use the brakes!:D
