Tigeowners.com members,

If you haven't already noticed the forum has had a lot of "Spam" posts. Please do not click on any of the links or threads. Doing so could potentially cause you to install spy ware or infect your computer with some sort of malicious virus.

I am working on eliminating this issue so please be patient.

Thanks,
Matt

Is any way that you can lock out those users?

They are not users, most likely automated bots. And to answer your question yes I have but they somehow are evading my captcha and registration process.

Damn I hate spam.

Me too, if there is anything that we can do, let us know (besides not hitting the links).

How about setting a rule that ppl can not start a thread until they have 1-5 posts in response to threads? Can that be done?

This same thing is happening on a motorcycle forum I belong to. They have had about 25 bogus registrations in the last 8 - 10 hours.

Matt,

Are you able to add a logic question in addition to your capcha? Bots have a hard time with these, even when the questions are simple. Like, what number comes after two?

We are getting hit hard right now.. The same person has posted three times.. ;)

Definitely possible. Maxima.org has vbulletin with that exact setup. You got a lot of newbies posting bs to get their numbers high enough but was great there is if you did that you got banned too. I guess the other problem is you'd have to ban CP3, etc. because they would be considered spammers too :D.

Also one thing I did not mention is the forum's software was upgraded and when doing so I lost a few things.

One of them is the rock on, BS and off topic smilies. The other is the custom Youtube and Quicktime embed tags.

No worries though, I'll get those back on once I finish all the updates and spam issues.

The forum has been updated with the latest software, you will probably notice subtle differences throughout the site. If you have any questions I will try to answer them the best I can.

Thanks,
Matt

I just registered and I can't post new threads!

In order to combat spammers, we require that you post 15 replies to other peoples' threads before you start your own. Replies that are no-content or otherwise spammy will be deleted and will not count against the 15.

I can't post replies OR threads.

When you register your account or change your e-mail address, you're sent a confirmation e-mail. You will need to follow the instructions in this e-mail before you will be allowed to post. If you lost the email, click here to request it again. If you still don't get it, check your spam folder.

I don't like the 15-post rule!

Occasionally someone writes us saying that they just want to post a thread to ask a single question, and they don't "get" the 15-post rule. Please try to understand something - there are a lot of members here who are happy to help others with advice, but none of them are paid to do so. They aren't on anyone's payroll; they do what they do because they like this community. We feel that making a little effort to participate in the community is not too much to ask, in return for the benefits you stand to receive. The rule also helps us to keep out spammers, which is of obvious importance - and no, we won't waive this requirement, even if you promise you aren't a spammer.

Matt,

Here is another suggestion that XDA-Developers use to stop this. Not sure it will work.

The "Quick Reply" area on the bottom of the threads is disabled. To post a message, you have to click "Post Reply" and replay that way. Hope that helps.

Wow, surprising considering the state of the economy. You would think that SPAM would be selling off the shelves and the company would be in the black with their accounting books. But again, maybe the Fed's are going to bail them out with $1 billion + loan also.
