As some of you know, I broke my ankle about a month ago on a freak accident waterskiing where my foot came halfway out of my binding and broke inside the binding. Well anyways they didn't give me a hard cast so every once in awhile I still get out on the wake skate. Yesterday i had decided i would start off the swim deck and just let myself out (big mistake). I had forgotten to put gloves on so i was about halfway out and getting more rope burn than I wanted so i just let go of the coil i had in my hand and somehow it got looped around both ankles. I got drug through the water for what seemed like 10 minutes but I'm sure it wasn't long because as soon as the driver saw what happened he slammed the tranny into reverse. He had to jump in and get it unwrapped form my ankles. Well after a visit to the ER my one ankle is still broken but needs a cast now and the other ankle is also broken and both of them have a good amount of ligament and tissue damage (plus a pretty nasty rope burn). Lesson learned don’t try and start off the swim deck!!

Even with gloves that's a bad idea. Loops and knots in coiled ropes can kill or dismember you as they unspool under tension. Although the driver (and observer?) didn't talk you out of it, you still owe them a beer or two.

A guy at our lake a few years ago lost his hand when he was tubing. He somehow thought it would be a good idea to coil his hand around the rope when it was making a sharp turn and the rope went slack.
I still imagine 'Thing' from the adams family creeping around on the bottom of my lake.
I am glad you weren't hurt worse. Would it be totally tasteless to break out the TTIWWP here?

WOW! That could have ended FAR worse than it did. Sux about your ankles, but thank your lucky stars that the rope didn't get you worse!!
