So I have had my 08 20I for 28 hours and I love everything about the boat except the throrttle. I have to push down beyond where I normally lay my hand and there is always a hesitation before the motor engages. It is also hard to maintain a constant speed. I thought the EFi would be more reponsive than my carb. 350 but it is not. I drove a Response LXI the other day and the thottle control and response was so good that it makes me question if something can be done about mine? Does this sound normal?

I'm guessing you have either the MP 320 or 340? Not sure what you mean by "I have to push down beyond where I normally lay my hand". Are you saying that there is a delay in the engine's response when you accelerate or is the engine stumbling? Drive-by-wire will respond with in Milliseconds.
Do you have Tige Speed Set?
This does not sound normal.

:ot: I learn a lot from everybody with the "newer Tige boats" it is really cool how things have progressed

What I mean is that the lever has to be pushed past the point where I can comfortably keep my arm on the rest. The engine could be stumbling, not sure how to tell the difference.
I have the MP 320 and I decided not to go with the speed set because in the past I never considered it hard to maintain a constant speed. I have been thinking that I might want to add it on but want to identify whats really going on. Haven't contacted the dealer yet, figured I get some good info from you guys first.

I understand what you're saying now, taking way more throttle then expected. Has it been this way from day one or did something change? Sounds like you have a driveability issue; fuel, ignition, or ECM related.
What's your top speed and RPM's?
Speed set should be an easy plug and play if you decide to upgrade, but it wont fix whats going on right now.

Well the throttle on the response lxi is completely different than yours. Two totally different systems. Malibu's new throttle are so extremely sensative that even "professional" boat drivers were coming to fast into a dock, jammed it into reverse and killed the engine.
Dont know what to tell you about your throttle other than its probably nothing like a new Malibu.:02:

Yes, from day one and I kinda got used to it until I drove the response on Monday and that opened my eyes.
I haven't run it wide open long enough to get to speed but will check this next time I'm out ( next few days).
Thanks for the info; I think it is time to touch base with the dealor.

My first impression of the Response was that it was to sensitive and needed to be adjusted but i guess not.
I would be happy with somewhere in between.

BTW was it a 2008 response?

No, it is an 06 or 07 with the 340 monsoon. It is a nice boat to drive and ski behind but a little short in the gunnel (sidewall) area .

Ok well in that case, that boat does not have the new throttle system like mine does that is ultra sensative. So my conclusion would be that your boat for whatever reason is a little sluggish.

If there is hesitation, then I'd have your dealer check out the engine. Your response should be instantaneous. In terms of the throttle travel itself, this will be different from boat to boat. I'd rather have less sensitive because it gives me finer control. This is very important at slower speeds.

Talked to the mechanic at the dealorship today and he said it sounds like an engine management issue. He is going to contact MP and see what he needs to download to fix the problem.
I knew it wasn't right from day one and am glad to hear that it can be corrected; I will feel even better when it is corrected.
