Changing the water pump and trans fluid?

We no longer have a Tige dealer in our area or a Mercruiser dealer that I really trust. I need to change my transmission fluid and possibly the rubber water pump impeller. Any words of advise on how difficult these two jobs are to do and also how often do you guys change these two items? Thanks!

Thanks Greg! For others with the same questions, it is best to change BOTH the trans fluid and rubber impeller every year. Not hard and pretty cheap!! This should help everyone.
