Who needs a boat when you have a river.

They also do it on the snake river (as well as others) at the "big kahuna, lunch counter" rapids. When I was kayaking down the snake river, we would watch them surf those rapids. It's pretty intense, because if you fall, you're in the thick of the rapids, have to ride it out with the hope that you don't hit a rock or something and then pick up your board, swim to the side and hike back to the entry point.
