View Full Version : Overdue pics of my '08 RZ4
I've posted a handful of times w/ questions about my '08 RZ4 and you guys have been awesome about getting back to me w/ answers...w/ one request--u wanted to see some pics. So, I took a few a few weeks back that I just got--they aren't great b/c it's a bit hard to see the boat in it's entirety b/c it was in the water, but I'm picking it up from it's 20-wk service this weekend, so I'll try to get some better ones. That said, here they are...

Yeah, yeah, was waiting for some "dang yankee" type comment! :) We actually do board quite a bit -- my wife, brothers-in-law & sister-in-law even went so far as to go to a Darren Shapiro camp a few yrs back...sadly, they are all much better'n me! The boys do flips, 360's...all the crazy stuff...as for me...well, I'm still learnin'...I'll put it to you this way: the boat we had prior to the RZ4 was a 2,000lb yamaha jet boat, so needless to say the wake was not quite the same...1st time I went off the RZ4's wake w/ the ballast...   !!! I didn't land so smoothly...think i gave myself a concussion! Along those lines, the boys were telling me not to be timid w/ a big wake, that if u get after it and extend your legs as you are taking off, it should throw u into the flats where is smoother/easier to land...that true? Or are they trying to see how bad I can hurt myself? :)

It will throw you out there, its better to start small and then go big.

If you have the skill (can't imagine you do from the post) it's best/softest to land on the down side of the opposite wake vs the flats. The flat landings are a little harder on the body IMHO. It's a whole lot easier to just launch into the flats though if your wake is big.

Can get lucky sometimes and start in April, but typically May to Sept. We try to get the most out of it--I needed my 20-hr service in less than a month! The more annoying thing we deal w/ where I am that u don't have to is how rough the water can get sometimes...we do our boating in the Peconic Bay, which is the body of water in between the 2 forks of Long Island. It is a beautiful area, don't get me wrong, but it really is an art finding flat water at times--can't board when there's a 2ft chop!
B/c I'd promised better ones a while ago...
How r u guys all making out in this financial mess? Don't know about u all, but I go to work these days wearing a helmet, mouthpiece and 2 cups -- I wear the second one backwards...:o...I pulled up the pics just to try to cheer myself up!

That is one sweet ride indeed!!!!!!!!!!!
As far as advice for wakeboarding, the flats are harder on the old bones. It takes just a little patience and technique to start with a shorter rope where the wake will be narrower for you, and get your approach speed just right so that you can land on the downhill side of the wake. Once you land in that zone and just slide down into the trough, you will crave it over and over;)
