I am thinking about making a trip to Isabella this summer. Any info you can give me?

The road getting in to the lake is a B!TCH.

You can see on the rocks where all the car/boats hit them.

The road that goes up the Kern River more than likely. Bad road to speed on... Very windy road.

No don't go that way. Come in from the other direction, from the east on the 178 off of the 14. Or the 15 to the 395 to the 14 to the 178. It is alot better going that way then from the west particulary where you are coming from it would be easier. My in laws live up there so I have gone through there both directions.

Last time we went up there. We saw alot of branches and logs in the water. It all washes down from the kern river.

I was born and raised there. The road is pretty hard if you don't know it. The wind will blow for sure. You will get good water in the morning and evening by the two dams and I have never seen any logs in the water.

The 178 from the east is not nearly as bad as from the west.

We are up there all the time. The canyon road is narrow in a few spots, but otherwise not that bad. Get out early and plan to be done by 12:00-2:00 due to wind. It's great on weekdays without the crowds, lots of places with good water. Never seen logs in the water. There will be trees sticking up when the water is low. We prefer the east side of the lake, not the dam side. There are some underwater hazards around the west (dam) side that can be a problem when water is low. When were you planning on going?
