View Full Version : Z Tower

I know a few of you all have the Z tower.... how bad does the Z tower sway w/ speakers up top?
I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth the $$$$ for the upgrade. I just think it looks sooo much better, but my dealer was telling me he's been having reports of them swaying. And Tige is apparently only warrantying the Z tower for a year vs. the full 3 years for the std. tower. Any comments?

I've heard the Z Tower is a PITA to collapse.

I've heard that too, but that does not concern me. I NEVER take my tower down. Even if I were to, I always have a second person w/ me to help.

I'm just now seeing the Samson Switchblade. But it worries me b/c I saw tall's comments about it being shaky.
I cannot stand side to side sway when the speakers are up top, so that's my main and only concern. The ability to raise or lower does not concern me one bit!
the samsom razor is sweet and easy to collapse too

Eh, I don't really care for the looks of the Razor at all.

Can you imagine? 6-8(I forget) Fusions, 2 loaded racks, possibly a bimini or lights?

The Z tower is made by XTP, and the E series is made in house. That may be the reason for the warranty. Shoot Tim @ Wetsounds an email. Looks like he's got a little weight on his tower :)

I have the Z tower but I only have the factory Kicker tower speakers and have not had any sway at all. Even when I have both racks loaded down with boards I never notice any movement in the tower, there is some movement on the racks though.
Overall I would choose the Z tower again, I love the looks of it.
Also I don't fold down my tower so its not a concern to me.

I have the E tower. I have a 485 and 2 Pro 80's up top. Feels very stable but I do get some bad squeaking if the water is rough

Oops... the pic in your avatar looks like the Z tower... guess I should have peaked at your gallery. LOL
I actually like the E tower, but I can't get two 485's on it :(

Why not? There should be enough room for 2 485's

I have the Z tower. I had XTP add a custom straight bar so I could fit a pair of 485's and pair of 60's. This tower is rock solid. No sway at all.
So i say for sure go for the Z tower. The only issue with it. It is a pain to take down and put up. I never take mine down either so wasn't an issue.
Also, FYI, XTP is making all the towers including the E now.
The 485's have 2 clamps so it is hard to get a pair on towers that have a large curve like the E tower. So the 3-Some is the option most go for.

The Z I have seen is very, very solid. The only complaint I hear is the putting it up and down.
I have only seen one switchblade, and it definitely was a wobbler. There are multiple others who have that tower and are extremely pleased with it, and testify that there is no sway whatsoever. I tend to think there was a problem with that individual tower.

i have the z with the 3some
cant do 2 485's due to the radius, hence why tim went with the straight bar.
this year i am adding and then will be selling on my soon to be up site
3 inch racks so we can have more than 1 rack on each side of the tower.
im going to put up 2 more on each side wo we can have 10 board and 2 wakesurf boards.
with the new amp rack im putting in, i lose most of the underseat space so need more racks.
I am also going to be adding a new custom light bar which is going to be sick! so stay tuned, lets just say its going to have 4 PIAA offroad HID lights on them! i plan on prolly selling these this summer to if they work out great.
as for sway, the Z tower is prolly the stiffist tower out there thats not connected like the illusion tower is. yes its a pain to put up and down, but who really does that that much? if you need to, just make sure you have a friend around all the time :)

You could always go with the X-Star tower from MC - it should fit since Tige copied them and all!:D :D

We are seriously gonna have to give Wannabe spelling lessons on this site since his school isn't doing it.
Lets see; he can't spell, doesn't know what capitalism is, and I'm sure there's other stuff I'm missing! I know there's a teacher on this sight that can help this kid ;)

OK OK... busted... I missed that one... but I'm drugged up due a migraine today, so I have an excuse.
And good try Timmy... but I was referring to
Capitalism - an economic and social system in which the means of production are predominantly private owned and operated, and in which investments, distribution, income, production and pricing of goods and services are determined through the operation of a market economy.
