I have decided to get our Phat Tower Re-Powder Coated. It is a 1999 on our 22i and has some mild evidence of fading with a scratch or two, three.... I have a local shop that will do the work. The color is 'purple sport' originally and we intend to modernize the color on the redo. I will be removing the tower and need to research the associated hazards with that task.

Our tower has the original 4 board racks that came with the foam covers. A few years back I installed the retro kit which involved riveting hard pre-cut rubber bumpers that I believe are used today on the phat products.

We have a Dbot5 board rack and I intend to purchase a matched set for the other side. We recently won the rack (Poker run worse hand Tige Reunion).

Since I will have the tower off, should I move away from the four original board racks? I could have the mounting holes welded closed and commit to the new Dbot5 board mounts? Or should I subscribe to the more is better and have the capability of 8 board racks? I have observed others with mult style board racks so I was wondering what folks thought once they were at the stage.

I appreciate your thoughts on the subject and all Tige subjects.

I think I would probably keep the racks you never know when you are gonna need the extra room plus its not hurting anything to keep them and its just less of a headache. We definately want to see before and after pics. What shop are you using?

What's the cost going to be on the powder coating?

$200-300. I will take off the tower and he believes he can sand it and re-shoot it. We really do not have any blemishes or dings. I am going to remove the riveted racks (Before Phat welded the board racks). I may have them welded since I am there and a heli welder guy in the same business park.

I had a bid with sand blasting which was $500-700. The benefit would be if we did not believe the original paint was not sticking. The paint has adhered flawlessly for 8 years. The tower has merely faded some (Lots of sunshine So Cal, Havasu, Lake Mohave, Powell etc). Plus we may go a little crazy, flakes? sparkles? something different...
