I have a 21V 2001 with a 350 MPI and the belts are getting riped up and wearing out fast. Ive replace both idealer pullies and clean out the gruves on the hole system. Can anyone give some advise on the problem or a solution to the problem. It will eat a belt up about 1 to 2 months.

Have someone check the elignment of your pulleys. Mercury put a service bulletin out on this in June 2002.

put a straight edge across the face of the crank pulley and alternator pulley. it should sit flat on both. the alternator probably needs shimmed out approx. 5/8".

probably close to 100 engines. talk to a merc dealer, there is a service bulletin for the fix.
