It's a sad day in Mokiville

I just winterized my boat, I was dreaming of one more trip this weekend but it's not going to happen. I tried something new this year. I did the basics:

Change oil, oil filter, fuel filter
Stabilize fuel
Warmed up engine
drained blue plugs
New part:
Then hooked up 4 gallons of anitfreeze through fake lake

I let all 4 gallons run through and about a gallon came out of the fresh air exhaust.

We've already had a few nights below freezing and my boat is not kept in the garage, so for her health, I had to do it. You're lucky that you can still keep going!

You may want to consider just draining your blue plugs after each time during the cold weeks, that way you won't have problems with your block cracking in case of power outage. Should only take a few minutes.

Bring on the snow, I can't wait for our annual trip to Jackson Hole. I think we are going to go a little later this year, probably February. If anyone decides to come to the Tampa Bay area before your boats are defrosted give a shout if you want to get out on the water. Hopefully the the water won't get below 65 this year or I'll have to stop riding,:eek: that's why I'm putting in a heater though:)

I drained my block for the first time. I must say I liked doing that a lot better then what I did last year. I only have one hose that is a concern. I couldn't get it off and it goes under the engine. I know most of the water is out. I used an air hose through the thermostat hoses and blew out some that was left. I should be ok, I do like the idea of some antifreeze being in the block though.

Yes, I bought a 5 gallon jug that has a hose that hooks up to my fake lake. You can also take the hose off of your water scoop and place it in a bucket of antifreeze. I did this because there are so many hoses with a heater and shower that need to make sure are drained and any pockets of water should be replaced with the antifreeze. I didn't have problems with the way I did it last year and it got really really cold. But this method saved me some time and gives a little more peace of mind

Does anyone know if when the antifreeze has circulated around the block that it has made it to the heater? My heater is up under the dash and the hoses are very long. I could conceive that it might still have water only in it.

If you drain the water from the heater first, and then no antifreeze makes it to the heater core while you're flushing it in, then dont worry. No water, no freeze.

The first year I did this I pulled the return hose from the heater off to make sure antifreeze was in there and it was. I then normally do a complete fluid change. Next is 303 on all vinyl surfaces then the complete wax job. I wax the bottom of the boat also, I like the shine vs the extra speed or whatever. I store my boat in a heated garage that is attached to my house so this is all just super extra precaution, but I don't think you can be to safe.
