You were there and I was stuck at the beach in California. Weather looked great and I heard it was nothing but butter all weekend.

The Overton arm on Monday was unfreakingbeleivable! I will have some pics, but they are locked up on someone else's camera. It was glass all day long, and very little traffic. Water temp if you went far enough - get this - 90 degrees! I will be posting a thread when I get the pics, because of something else that happened...(I am a teaser):p
Were you there Monday?

Yes, there are a boatload of beaches that looked pretty good. Historically, the lake has not dropped much from here on out, so I think things look pretty decent. The biggest long beach about 2 miles from Overton marina is where the water starts to get pretty murky. I quit going when I was sure I would never see any underwater obstacles although the depth finder was still at 17 feet about 150 feet from shore. That is where the water was 90 degrees and I just was having the feeling to not go any further. I think that something much closer to Echo will offer everything we need. Probably on the East side actually. I hope to make another trip before the reunion.

It is a long haul to get there but we get alot of good empty water and no waits to launch. Hope the water comes back up and refills the Gregg basin, thats where the real good water is.

wlfnvegas,
How far from Echo were you on that pick? Looks like a potential place for the reunion headquarters...
Very nice picture. The only thing that would be better is if it looked better than that at noon...

chpthril, Noted! I'll try harder next time!
Tall - This was about a 15 - 20 minute ride north of Echo. We bounced back and forth up the Overton Arm and this was the only spot we found that was nice and sandy. The water looked just like that all day. It was that flat at 4PM.

I think there were quite a few areas out there on the East side of the lake that looked potentially feasible as well.
I hope to get up there for a definite spot for the HQ before the reunion. If not, then will have to wait until the day before.
I might even be trying to get in touch with Evilone (who has a slip at Echo), and maybe see what other input can be gathered. Maybe your spot is the best spot. I was hoping to find an area that got deeper a little quicker so that boats could be nosed closer to the beach without fear of running gear rubbing on the bottom.

There were plenty of spots like that out there - I had to find a nice sandy spot with little or no vegetation for the women folk. If it had been just the guys we probably would have stayed closer to echo. One thing you do want to watch out for - we found a beach about a month ago that looked perfect. I threw my buddy the EZ up and he carried it onto the beach, where he promptly sank up to his knees. Since then he makes me get out first.
Here is our local lake from the weekend.
Pics were taken mid day ( about 3pm)

Now that would make nice headlines in the Las Vegas Review Journal, "30 people (or 50 or whatever), sunk to their knees in mud at lake mead, had to be pulled out by Tige boats"

Kscales - what was the water temp?
Unfortunately nothing like you would get in all that sun :)
that day it was low 70's which is pretty normal for around here until the end of Sept. Our threshold is about 65 anything under that and we put the wet suites on.
We have a few lakes in the Okanagan that get to about mid 80's in the summer but those are about 4 hours away, where our local lake is 15 minutes:)

Looks wierd to see a big lake that is nearly full. :p I cannot remember what they look like when the vegetation goes down to the shoreline. I would never have guessed you could get a lake like that up to the 70's in temperature. Very beautiful!
We will need to watch out for the muck!
