My 11 yr old son RJ is trying to throw a backroll, this is his second time out attempting. He still cuts in too hard, and needs to get higher, but he will get it. The incredible thing is that last time we went out it was dark, and the pictures were crappy. Whitney (the photogapher) did get a chance to get used to her new 75-300mm lens. Well, we went out this afternoon and made sure we made the attempts in good light. On top of that, I made sure we were riding in places where I could mostly face the sun. OMG, I cannot believe these pictures came off my boat. Here are a few:

She is still a bit off focus on some, but man is she starting to take great pics.

Those are awesome pics. That must be a really high end camera, with someone who knows how to use a high end camera at the controls.

We have fun with our camera, too. When load up the boat with the boys and their friends, I just get the camera out and ready to go. They take turns taking pictures and doing tricks for the camera.
What camera do you have?

Great pic's. It is amazing to see people expressions when they crash. It's rather funny and makes me feel better about my boarding and the inability to do it.

Very awesome pictures. Love the facial expressions, they're priceless.
Ya gotta love that Canon. That's why I fell in love with mine so quickly, I couldn't believe some of the shots that I've gotten. Apparently, neither can others as they have asked me "did you take that picture?".

Its really not a high end PRO camera. Its def a high end consumer camera. Its the entry level into the Canon EOS pro line, its the Canon Rebel XT. You can pick one up for about $700 with a 18-55mm lens. The 75-300mm lens is under 200, I got mine at walmart of all places. So basically about a grand for what you need. But IMHO, you can't put a price on the pictures you get. I will be 80, looking through years and years of beautiful pictures.

Y, we took video too, which is great, but you don't see those expressions, they are great.

The video is probably panned out to make sure you get the entire run. I have never liked my video's when the camera is right up against the person you are trying to capture a video on. I guess I will have to grab my video camera out of retirement (it's only 2 years old and works great but don't like recharging the batteries all the time).....

I gotta tell ya, my boy got to be rope boy on the boat for 2 days with the outlaws and PRO riders at INT. He will never be the same. He is possessed, and I love it. He has wakeboarding on the brain. We come back in after an afternoon on the lake, and him getting slapped senseless on the water, and he says "are we going tomorrow?". Gotta love it.

I will post something up to see later in the day. Gotta get some work done first!

Awesome pics! My mom has an older Canon EOS and it is ridiculous how good the pictures are. I'll agree w/ the others, there's nothing like the facial expressions when you land.. and no video camera or digital camera can get them like that! Your son is gonna nail that back roll in no time! :ro:

I know exactly what you mean. Garrett is so excited about surfing that he started to look for ballast sacks on ebay. His mother caught him and told him that we are going to wait until after this season is finished before we get anything. It is simply amazing how kids feel/look/act when they are excited about something.

We have the same boat, I get a great surf wake, with just the 400lb vdrive sacs in the lockers and a couple of fat bricks to throw on one side to help the people weight. You are close enough to me, I have the big 750 you can borrow, just put right in the center of the boat, all the touching the back seat.

I'm right there with you. I've got one wakeboarding and both wakesurfing. Seems like all I do is drive my boat. We had Larry Mann from TrickBoardz ride with us last weekend and we all had a blast. Even I got to ride. :ro: The kids really look up to Larry because he's an innovator in the sport.
I sure hope the Ski Dock can get a pro or two in town for the Tige Reunion. They had Erik Ruck, Nick Weineker and Chris Bischoff in town for years ago. We rode with them twice. It was soooo much fun and we learned a lot. What a great group of guys! My youngest had never cleared the wake all the way (came close). But a couple of pointers from the pros and he went huge. Landed all the way out in the flats on a full length rope. He was so pumped after seeing a Raley he tried to do one. He got about 12 feet in the air and did a full face plant. Knocked his helmet off and everything. Later they got their board signed and then I had to get him a new one because, of course, you can't ride a signed board, right? :D :D
The more I drive, the more I love my boat! :ro:

ragboy, thanks for the idea. We are thinking about getting up to Oroville in mid August for a camping trip on one of the house boats??? Might be one of those floating campsites but that is what we are planning to do. Over the next few days we will see but will let you know. Thanks, :)

I have 5 kids pumped about boarding, and a 2 yr old that loves the water, and I hope I will have up by the end of the season. 4 of them surf and board. All I do is drive, and I love it. It takes a good 5 hours to get them all rides boarding and surfing, plus a little swim time. Its nuts. My wife tries not to look at the gas bills. Good thing the lake is right down the road.

The best feature of the camera, IMHO, is the rapid shutter feature. You don't have to be good to get the perfect shot. There's no wasting film either:ro:

I have that exact same camera, but I can tell you that my pictures are no where near as good as the ones you got. Guess it's time to upgrade the lens to the higher zooming one. Thanks for the info, and costing me a couple hundred more bucks in the process.

I highly recommend the 75-300mm image stabilizing lens for action shots. I also have the Canon XTi ... just took some great 7 x 7 football photos at a tournament last weekend. Hopefully going to use it at the lake this weekend. Try the auto sport setting and click away

Is there a difference between the 75-300mm image stabilizing lens and just the 75-300mm, or are they one in the same?

The stabilizing lens is 3 times as expensive and has a giro to stabilize the lens in your hands. I'd get a monopod instead for about $30.

I am in the middle of an argument with a friend of mine right now, he doesn't go out because of the price of gas. I tell him I can't remember what gas costs were even last year, but I do remember all the fun times we had. The pics are the best way to keep those memories fresh. I just have them as a slide show screen saver and at work people are always asking where and when was that. You can't beat time with the kids in a boat. I also have to give my :02: on the camera. The cannon is an awsome camera and I almost bought one and ended up finding the Nikon D50 with a 15-80 lens and a 85-300 at costco for $800. It was my wifes mothers day present last summer;) . I think it is very close in comparison to the cannon and the price was right. Not saying it's the best, just a great camera to catch memories. I think every boater needs a good slr with no shutter lag, it should be a standard accessory when you buy a boat. Back to the thread, awesome pics Ragboy and congrats on the family time.

tell him to keep his elbows locked at his waist. I guarantee if he does that, he will land it.

The shots I have posted are all handheld. I would rather she just got good that way. Just jump in a boat and get good pics. Sounds expensive, I wasn't aware of that lens. Sounds cool though.

Not worth it, IMHO. Get the monopod, it's very handy at sporting events on land, too.
Great Pics! I have the Canon Digital Rebel as well and it takes awesome shots. I agree with Dogbert, a Dad's job is to create memories. It's the memories that my dad created for me that have caused me to buy a boat, motorcycles, etc.
It is great to see your kids out there enjoying it. My 14 year old is hooked, my 12 year old just picked up wakesurfing this year, and my 8 year old daughter just got up on a wakeboard on her first try yesterday.
