Dam I am STOKED :ro: With the boat finally weighted right and enough ride time this weekend, I am finally able to surf with out the rope.

Yesterday I rode a good 1/2 mile stretch w/o the rope. Today, we went out early, water was flat and traffic was light  I was able to ride about a mile before loosing the pocket.

The next step is to work on lengthening the pocket/wake......any suggestions guys?

22Ve
500#'s in the bow
700# surf sac along post side
400# sac on port sat (will go in port console when permanently plumbed)
TAPS on 3-4
Speed = 10 - 10.5

Awesome!!!! Congrats! Isn't that the best feeling, when you throw in the rope and ride, and ride, and ride!!!

Very nice, we too tried our first surfing in July 4th. We all got to where we could ride without the rope that day, it is a great feeling. What board are riding in the pic??? We were using a straight surfboard that was a fish design that was 6'4" long. I think that helped us be able to ride so easy. Downside to that board is we really can't play with it. I want some ideas of what other people are riding with to see if we can get something more universal to cruise and play on. I posted some shots and our boat setup in this section the other day if you are interested.

haha very nice chp. maybe slow it down a lil and you def need to pull down those shorts. Ill be in rock hill again wednesday and thursday. hopefully my boat will be ready. I can get ya a good surf wake :D

I really surprised that is all the wake you are getting with that much wieght. I get about that with a 400 up front and a 400 in the rear. must be the difference between the v and the ve?

Have you tried putting more weight in the bow? That is what I need to do with my wakesurf wake right now. Good job. It is a mother trying to get a boat dialed in with a wakesurf.

hmmm....we pretty much always surf at 8-8.5 and have TAPS at 5-7, but playing with it till you find out what works for you is the best. But if your looking for FYI, I'd say slow it down a bit:02:

LF Venture 5.0. Wont buy another, poorly built. Lost 2 fins last summer because the bolts are too short, only about 2 threads into the fin. Thanks, I'll check out your post.

Don't worry, no chance of anything falling out  :D Call me if you come up. My boat is in a slip right now as Wakewilson's boat is on my trailer for a ballast install and may still be down there.

I've got a 280# fatbuddy I will throw up front and see.

Wake washes out below 10 although I have not actually tried to surf it. Would moving weight or adding some clean that up at slower speeds?

Looks like your wake is falling over a bit. Try bumping the speed up to 10.7 or even 11. Then play with the TAPS until you get it right. If you want a longer wake, then put more weight in the bow. Use TAPS to clean up your wake.

I agree with dog. If your wake is washing out I would bump the speed up. In our 22Ve with the factory ballast and about 800lb of people weight on one side we usually surf anywhere from 10.4 to 11.8 but anywhere below 10 is too slow and washy.

That list of sac's that you put down, is that what you are running right now?

I would think you would have a much larger wave than that, of course pictures don't always do it justice. Have you tried the taps between 6 and 8 and just a little more speed?

chpthril
07-09-2007, 07:12 PM
Faster and I have trouble keeping up with the boat  At my current speed, the wake will wash out with TAPS higher, but I dont know if I have tried 11-11.5 with the TAPS higher. I'll try some different combo's next time out.

See, you ask a question here and go away with more ideas to solve a problem. Good luck, you might want to write the solutions down so you don't forget. :D I have senior mements a lot already and don't want you to encounter them yet....

It's tough to fine tune and then every boat is different. We are at 10.8 to 11.2 with taps at a solid 6. Even with no ballast the taps was never below 6, usually it was at 8, just depended on the # of people on board.

You can slow down that boat. Its all in the adjustment of the TAPS.

Ill give you a call when Im in town. whether its your boat or mine I want to ride :D

Nice smokestack in the background!

Looks like you are having a good time with it. In October, Lake Mead will be calling your name!

I hope the lake water isn't warmer than the other lakes. Do you know what they are discharging into the water? Or, are they just using it for cooling purposes?

The one behind me is a nuke. I dont think they use any water and discharge because the water temp is the same North of it and and a long finger on the south side. About 10 miles North is an old coal burner that discharged nice warm water that will keep the winter time h2o temps in the low 70's but like a hot tub right know. water's not polluted at all either.

Well, gotta go, got something in my middle eye that I cant seem to get out with my flippers.

Lol.. that picture reminded me of that Simpsons episode w/ the alien in the forrest that turned out to be Mr. Burns after some sort of radiation therapy. Does anyone remember that episode? I'll try and find a picture or YouTube link or something..

of course I did.. I was bored at work just counting the seconds til I got off to go wakesurfing! :ro:

:ot: btw I have another wakesurfing convert, I took a buddy of mine from work out today who is a wakeboarder/surfer and introduced him to wakesurfing and he is hooked! Already talking about getting a board and whatnot, only problem is he has a sea-ray..

:ro: We are trying to convert a slip owner at the marina from his Reinell to an RZ2. They did the wakeboard clinic last month with us that Cathy Williams put on and are hooked. Monday I was telling him and our dealer Tony about surfing all day Sunday and they were drooling :ro:

Are last 2 trips, we had the time to play around with the weight and placement, speed and TAPS. and have improved the wake and are now surfing @ 11mph with no prob.

original set-up:
500 in bow
700 port storage/side
400 in seat or peeps.

First we decided to not fill the bow sac and instead threw another 400 on top of the 700 in the port storage along with the 400 in the seat as it was just the 2 of us. The wake was just a tall, if not a little taller, but the pocket seemed to be longer. With the new board (CWB Tsunami) I am able to increase the speed and stay up with the boat.

Next we filled the bow sac and could really feel a change in the wake. With weight in the bow, the wake became soft and hard to get any bite, if that makes sense.

Last trip out we just filled the 700 in the port storage/side and a 400 in the seat. The wake height was great, nice pocket, good curl.

Conclusion - 22Ve does not weight upfront. :02:

Yeah, we found the same thing, we have a integrated bow sac that we NEVER use.
