Dumb question, do you tow with your boards on the rack?

Yep, it's me again, mr. Have no idea. This is my first boat with a rack on it. I live about 15-20 minutes from the lake here.

Is it okay to put the boards on the rack before towing, or is that a no-no. Should this wait for arrival at the dock? My racks are directly on top so they dont hang off the sides at all.

Yea its Perfectly fine. Just keep an eye on them if you make a stop or something so no one steals them and make sure they are strapped or Bungeed on. So yea we tow with all 4 boards on ours.

I disagree. Having seen more than one ad in my local paper's lost and found stating something like: 'Lost: wakeboard X with bindings Y, somewhere between Gunlock reservior and Santa Clara'.

It might depend on how fast you go. I live 20 minutes from my local lake, and would never think of it, but I do go freeway speeds at one point. The racks are not well designed to handle 65 MPH winds, or suppose you are driving 65 and into a 25 MPH wind comes up.

A board in the hand is worth 2 in the bush.

^^True.. Theres Arguments for both though. IF you were going to take the freeway for like a trip or something yea dont put them up there but if your taking back roads or just w.e 20 minutes from the house to get to the lake yea go ahead.

I agree with talltigeguy, not worth taking a chance of losing a board, damaging your boat or possibly the guy tailgating behind you. There was another thread here about racks breaking off, I think it was 06 models. Some of these guys were having a lot of trouble with that. You said yours were on top, sounds like yours are different. Better to yeild on the side of caution and not have anything happen, verses having them loaded while towing and possibly having something happen and then wishing you didn't do it. Tellin your self " I told myself so!" If you had enough doubt to ask on the forum, thats probably your conscience telling you, "don't do it."

I always just lay the boards on the floor in the boat. That way, there is no forgetting them in the truck, and all you gotta do is put em up when you get in the boat.

I figure we do about 30-32 when skiing with all the gear on the racks. So if you will be driving faster than that on the roads, the gear comes down.

we just put them in the racks at the lake. its alot easier than possibly dropping your expensive board on ASSPHAULT at 60 mph. that would suck and ruin your day of wakeboarding

I say leave them off, with you having a tower with the racks on the top, they will catch alot of wind and its quite possible of them flying off.

We always leave them on the floor of the boat until after we launch. Then while we are waiting for the driver to park the trailer we toss the boards up in the tower and we're ready to go. We go 60+mph on the way to the lake and I wouldn't want the boards up there with that kind of wind.
