I don't know if this subject has been posted here or not before, so forgive me if so.
I just finished making and installing a transome guard that will help prevent the WHACKING of my transom with a ski or wakeboard. I made it from a 6'6" piece of teak that was just over 1.25" thick and 7 inches wide. It was a little costly but I have the other half of the board left over if someone is interested. It is enough to make a second one.
I put it through a planer then made the cuts with a band saw then sanded with electric sander then by hand. I used Gorilla glue and counter sunk stainless screws from below.
Thought I would share.

Is that real teak or Iroko wood?

Clean, factory look, impressive :ro:
There is a patten on Transom saver and transom guard, so what you have might be called is a decorative piece of teak.

That looks great, I want one. I used Gator Grip and it goes up a little bit higher. And it was a little bit cheaper. But I would take one of those.

TigeDuner,
Yeah, It wasn't my idea. I had seen it before and a few friends did it. Although, yours and mine look almost identical. Great job on yours too.
Has it helped much?

We have been out a couple of times this season and it definately keeps the board away from the hull. Nice job on yours as well.

aren't you nervous cutting a 100 piece of wood? I mean, one little mis-step and .... damn
How did you cut it? Looks too nice for a jigsaw, too round for a table saw...

Band saw. Yes I was nervous but I have the other half to finish and sell.

We cut ours with a jig saw very slowly and then used a file for several hours to smooth out the saw marks. Then used a palm sander for the final finish. Probably have about 6 hours labor once it was cut. Maybe a little to much time, but I wanted it to look like it came on the deck.

I currently have my platform off for refinishing. I wonder if I can find 6 hours.....hmmmm

finding a nice piece of teak may take a while also, but its worth the effort when its done.

Griff, where do you boat?
That strip looks great by the way, nice job. I was unable to get the teak platform due to a supplier issue. I ordered with the teak and was then informed of the supplier problem and got a fiberglass platform instead. It is nice and a little bit larger in size which is good. But I think the teak platforms just add a much classier appeal to the boat.
Every boat down here in tidewater?

Hey forgot to ask this question, who did you buy from? Was it Stuart at North Atlantic in Woodbridge?

Scott,
I boat in a few private lakes with my slalom friends but also in the Mattaponi river in Walkerton with boarding friends and sometimes on the James with other friends.
I do not understand why you could not get the teak platform. If you live in VA Beach you probably bought your 2007 22Ve from NAMG. They could have swapped a platform from another boat. I have not heard of any teak shortage with Tige'.
