My son pulled out in front of an SUV yesterday morning on his way to work.
Thank God no one was injured. He was a little sore this morning but ok. Nothing hurt but the car and his pride :D No real loss, I bought this car 18 mons ago as a parts car for another VW that I have. My son ended up driving it to work and school because it gets 3x the gas mileage that his Jeep gets.

So know I am going to strip of what I wanted in the first place and scrap the body.

This thing took a hard lick. The driver and left pass. doors are gapped open at the top about 1" and the left edge of the trunk lid also. The right fender is pushed into the right front door so it only opens about 1/2 way. The left side and top are bathed in antifreeze, washer fluid, and battery acid. Trans case is busted.

The woman was going about 55 (in a 45) and never hit the brakes. As my son put it "she drove through me" and came to rest 200 feet past the point of impact (which is up hill) and knocked him for a 360 back into the parkinglot.

Always new VW made a safe car :)

I'd scrap the seats as well, at least the drivers one. It probably has a nice stain in it. Mine would.

Oh man, it was a GLI too. Bummer, good little cars. Don't scrap the seats, those are Recaro man. Detailers can work wonders.;)

Glad he is OK. Looks a pretty hard lick.

Thanks everyone.

The Recaros are going in my Cabrio this weekend. I am also swaping the bigger front brakes and the whole rear axle w/disc

I wanted the trany because it has a better 1st,2nd and 3rd ratio but it busted the case.

Glad he's okay. How did that phone call go. I had a way cool dad and he was always able to control the temper. I know you said not his fault, but he is a kid. I hope I will be able to have my dad's patience over the next few years, I have three driving and one isn't even mine, the German foriegn exchange student. My good hands agent says he's covered as long as I'm the gaurdian and have him listed as driver. Good luck on the parts salvage.

Yah, I went pretty easy on him, after all it was just an accident, sh!t happens.

I'm thinking he'll look twice next time. One of the best things that happened to my daughter a month after getting her license was she was hit by a dog. The dog was running out in the street she was able to get stopped and then the dog continued on and hit her, it ran off and we assume it was fine. She learned that she is not the only one using the road and hopefully will continue to watch out for others being stupid, even dogs.

When I was 17 I hit a limo in my dad's brand new range rover as I was changing lanes so it was a real minor corner to corner tap, both cars were still drivable. My dad was out of town and for pure punishment my mom made me go to the airport to pick him up and he gave me that look I knew meant he was "dissapointed". It was fixed and the premium didn't even go up cause the limo company didn't report the accident ever.

You mean the dog hit a stopped car? Holy cow that's one of the funniest things ever. I mean who has a dog run into them? That is crazy.

My sister had a deer run into her and it busted out a side window. She took a lot of grief for that.

I am still in shock that they let a Volkswagon in NC. :) I thought there would be some sort of back lash in NASCAR country for owning a "foreign" car. A buddy of 69Bug just moved back to NC and left his 69 Camero SS here with his Jetta, we kept telling him just to sell the Jetta because no one in NC has a VW (looks like we are wrong) :D

That's funny, I remember a story that was on the news when I lived in St Louis of a huge bull catfish that took out someone on a jetski. I think the same thing happened with a carp somewhere. Some of thos bull catfish weigh over 35-40 pounds, big mothers!!!

Yeah i was just reading an article that these fish jump 8 feet into the air and land in boats. Their plan to control them was to capture them and feed them to zoo animals.

Animals running into cars is a family thing. My dad had a truck we called the deer magnet. He had two different deer run into him at two different times, both times he got completely stopped then they continued and jumped into him. I think they must have been blinded by the light. Then he got even and smeared one all over the highway, the funny thing is the two that hit him caused more damage than the one he hit doing 60+.
Anyway Chpthril glad your son was okay. VW vs Suv isn't usually good for VW, and from the way it looks if he'd gotten a few more feet, NOT GOOD.

I had the same thing happen a couple of years ago. I pulled out across a intersection and I didn't see a Yukon coming down the road. Cops estimate he was doing 80 mph when he t-boned me. All I saw was GMC and that was it.

Everything happens to the wife, and i do mean EVERYTHING! Lets see she taken out a coyote (brains are orange, gross!), an albatross (seriously!), a covey of quail (the whole thing!), crows, squirrels, cats, numerous smaller fowl and even had a buzzards butt plastered against the windshield! I've teased her for years i'm going to get animal stickers to put on the car doors! :D

Back on 12/20/94 she had merged onto the four lane slab after Xmas shopping and a tractor trailer rig changed lanes and clipped the rear bumper, spinning the car sideways and pinning it to the grill of the truck at 60 mph! After 200 yards of getting pushed down the freeway she shot off the truck and hit three other cars! The only part of the car not damaged was the roof and the right rear quarter panel! Amazingly she wasn't hurt more than a pulled muscle in her back and some permanent nerve damage. Car was totaled of course but the craziest thing about it was the CHP wanted her to drive the car with collapsed front suspension stating it was ok! Needless to say we files a complaint report with CHP and asked if their officers were certified mechanics to make that assumption!

Huh, I had a duck smack the windshield of my old truck one night. I was doing at least 65 and the thing just showed up out of nowhere and bounced off the windshield. Scared the crap out me.

A friend totaled his mom's Hyundia when he hit a deer while doing 90mph. Talk about a mess.

Yeah it'll scare the crap outta ya! We were driving through a canyon and i guess the buzzard (turkey vulture) was eating roadkill on the side of the road. The car scared him and he took flight right in front of the car going the same direction. She had to hit the brakes as he was windshield height trying to gain altitude and his butt was actually kissing the windsheild, man they are big!

I wouldn't want ANYthing to do with a deer at 90mph. I've hit em at 60 before and that completely messes up your car, especially if they come up on the hood.

I can't imagine what 90mph would do.

On a side note, ever seen a deer after a Semi hits it? can you say "grease spot"?

I was passing a Semi that hit a deer going around 75. I was about at his driver's door. All I saw was the head........which I had to dodge. Truck never even slowed down.

Turkey vultures are another thing. Table Rock Dam and the White River are a roosting area for them in the Winter. If you are driving over the dam in the morning, these things ride warm currents and pop right out at windshield level.

They are Huge! Scare the crap out of me every time it happens. Luckily I've never actually hit one, just been close enough to see it's cold dead eyes!

And we are starting to get Armadillos around here too, so I hit those occasionally.......Texas chickens is what my buddy calls them.
