Anyone ever used or seen one of these? I can't find a picture of the back of this thing, and I don't want to drop 100 bux just to find out I gotta punch a huge hole in my transom.
Are there other transom remotes out there that would be better for a Pioneer HU?

check out this site. www.h2owaves.com
They make remotes for just about any HU. I have it on my boat and I has a solid range of over 100 feet. Plus it is water proof and floats.

Plus you don't have to put it on the transom. Just put it on a lanyard and you can keep it with you on the beach and change tune without getting in the water.

We do a lot of swimming and hanging in the water inbetween runs. We don't spend a whole lot of time on the beach. what I would really like is a transom remote. If I could find one that just attached to the transom, wireless, I would be all set. I can live with drilling screw holes in my transom if thats what I need to do, but drilling a big-ol' hole is not my idea of fun.

The only option you will have with a transom remote it to drill. PAC makes some wireless remotes (Infrared I think) that work with the access technologies remote. I have one of these hardwired next to the drivers seat.

I saw the iRock unit and really like it as you can mount one unit in the center of your steering wheel for easy access. BUT you have to buy the remote and a receiver for $150 total! I can get the Pioneer wired remote for $60 bux so it's a no-brainer for me 'cause i'm a cheap bastard! :D

My HU is right at the helm, so a steering wheel remote is not necessary.
Coach, you got some links for those PAC and Access pieces?

What I can't find for any of these is how it gets mounted. This one says its .625" in height, which is great. But how does it mount?? I can't find an install doc or anything that states how it gets connected. Just screws? Also with Infrared, it needs line of site, right? That won't work all that well if its mounted on the transom.

I love the remote, so when im about to go ride, i can find the music i want to listen to wihout having the driving stumbling for it

did you have to drill to put it in, or did it come on the boat?
Thats what I am most concerned with is drilling in my transom.

I installed mine last season it is a clarion and about the only tools were
1. drill
2. hole saw (the right size) start it in reverse
3. file or a flapper wheel to round the edges
4. 3m sealent I forgot the name but it 1000 times better than silicone if you need the name I can get it
4. 6 pack of beer for yourself when your done to calm your nerves its not that big of a deal but remember to measure, measure, measure then cut:D :D

ok, then what happens when someone cracks the remote. Dunno, maybe I'm being overly anal about this.

You replace it like you would anything else on your boat. These days, things are made to break.

I want to say Lee had an install using one of those PAC swix's or whatever they are called. It looks to be surface mount, so it would attach to the back via wood screw/tapping screw.

6. masking tape to tape the area before you drill

Junior, if you wouldn't mind finding out what that sealant is called, that would be cool.
Thanks

I had to drill holes to mount my tower, and it was nerve racking! We literally planned for 3 hours, and actually mounted the thing in about an hour....then we drank!
I suspect this will be similar. Measure 40 times, prepare to drill, measure again, then one more time and then hold your breath and drill.

The adheasive I spoke of is 3m maring 5200 it is a fast cure they also make a slow cure, this is the stuff that everybody should be using for below the waterline applications not silicone. You could use silicone up top on your transom mount remote. Sorry I did forget about the tape. Also drill a 1/16 pilot hole just to make sure your measurements are correct it is alot easer to fix htat than a 2"hole. :D Dont worry its not like your drilling the bottom of your boat and installing a thru-hull scoop for ballast I did that last fall and I thing I'm still drinking what a day that was!!!!!:D :D

Cool thanks for that. I drilled all sorts of holes in my old Supra, that was no big deal. Its just that my Tigé is so pretty. I really want to keep it that way, ya know? And yes, there will be plenty of drinking after this and the cleats I'm going to install. I'm a bit more nervous about those

I did mine by myself....hardest part was drilling through the dang flange to pin it.........need to sharpen my bits I guess. Had to get the neighbor to hold backup while I went into the hatch for one foot. I think I spent an hour and a half tops. I forgot masking tape under one of the feet though, so I had to pull it back up. Super simple install.....the damned articles I was reading made it sound difficult.
I suspect this will be similar. Measure 40 times, prepare to drill, measure again, then one more time and then hold your breath and drill. It's easy if you put it in the center of two things on the transom. Mark 2 lines, and the intersection is the center. Drill away.

yeah, amazing, I can build half a house no problem, build all sorts of stuff, drill holes in the outside of my house, but I'm nervous as a teenager buying condoms for the first time when it comes to drilling holes in my boat. Go figure.

I was pretty nervous when I had to drill that nice big 2 inch hole in the bottom of my brand new boat to install the perfect pass paddle wheel. Now I'm thinking of doing some of the underwater lights so it looks like I would be making two more 2 inch holes in the transom. We'll see.

Im going to have to add a depth sounder to mine, so that'll be a hole I'll have to drill. eesh

Get the in hull sender.....no holes.

Do not use this stuff if you will ever have to remove what was glued with it, 5200 will not let go.
Your remote should have a sealing gasket where you would not need to use a sealant.

most likely. I'll be above the waterline, so as long as I mount it flat, there should be no problem

I second what Lee said. Unless you want to get it out with a hammer and chisel, don't use the 5200.

If thats how tough that is, then yeah. gasket it is, and maybe some silicon if needed.

3m 4000 and 4200 are more removable, but I would only use those if you had to have the marine sealant. I would think silicone would work just fine on fresh water for something like that.
