Just wondering what some of you may have done for your subwoofer location? I have seen what everyone is doing in the V just wanted to hear from everyone else with a 22i or 21i

i put two tens in the passenger side locker in a box. went to an audio store told me to have them in a sealed box and if possible have them pointed at the floor of the boat so they would hit better and the sound would last longer and deeper. haven't hooked them up yet still a few things to install, should be done by next week i'll let you know how it turns out. if good i'll post pics. oh yeah its a 21i

banks, let me know how that works. I've heard the compartment inside that is so sound dead that it muffles the sound. That's where I wanted to put mine, but just what someone told me.

well i am getting them hooked up on wednesday. i needed a capacitor to run them since i only have one battery and two amps now, so my girlfriend and i went and picked that up last night for my birthday, but my b-day isn't till tuesday. 21 b-day oh yeah!

I have heard that facing the sub DOWN into the boat makes it louder and last longer. I think Banks said this in another forum.

Yeah I have heard that from Ruune as well. With it facing down it resonates more giving more bass I think. I have the Kicker L7 in my truck I am wondering about using one of those either 10" or 12. Havent yet decided what will sound better...

I cut out the kick panel underneith the dash on the drivers side and build a custon box for 2-12's. The compartment behind there is the only one in the boat that is water tight and had enough space to build a custom box to house my subs. I have some pics if you want to email me. dajuice@triad.rr.com.

Banks

i don't think it will be bad there, reason is that the subs are bass, and they are low to the ground there, and thats where the factory system puts them.

The kick panel that was there from the factory was cut out. I built a box behind which is now inside the storage compartment and put a new face panel on. Cut the holes with a jig saw then mounted the subs. I made the enclosure air tight and to the exact air space that was required. These things bump so hard that sound waves shake off the water when it is really calm. Let me know if you need to know anything else.

I don't have a Tige so I don't Know your space but I've seen/herd a lot of boats and by far the best bass comes from the open space under the drivers dash.
I have two subs ( 12"JL W-6 ) one in the observers compartment and one under the dash both facing the sides just for kicks I unhooked the observers side and you hardly even miss it. way better sound uder the dash. just my opinion.

Thats what I am thinking too.. You think its better to point the woofer to the side of the hull rather than pointing it down towards your feet?

Banks
04-16-2004, 02:32 AM
ok so here is what i did. i took the box i had and cut it in half leaving one sub still sealed in the box and took the other and put it under the driver side in the wall. man it rocks. left the other in the passenger side, and it works well as long as you have it pointed up and angled at the seat. but the whole thing sounds awesome. my girlfriend said she could here my boat from the house 1/2 a mile away.:)

by the way i mounted the sub under the console higher and to the left than the cut out. it hits and reverbs off of the part of the console that is extended some covering the leg space coming from the left side. the part that has the cup holder. and the sub is not visible from anywhere in the boat.

Looks good banks. I need to get some pics of my amp set up:) it looks good like yours;) the question I have for you, is does the amp vibrate the crap out of the dash and what not? if not, I"m sold, i'm mounting mine there where you have yours. Otherwise I think I'm gonna mount it down into the boat. Thanks for the info.

nothing from the amp, its mounted right under the factory installed amp, don't get any bad vibrations from teh sub either. heck you could always put a bigger sub in and just start lower to the boat if you wanted, as for me i am happy with the set up i have, next venture will be tower speakers when i can afford them.

yeah i've got both my amps and the equalizer mounted where the stock amp is, I also moved the stock amp over some so I could fit it all in. I need to get some pics of it and post them. I think it looks pretty mean;)

Hey Banks...

How long where the screws you used to mount the amps?
I'm doing an install right now and I'm paranoid about blowing through the gel coat!

Thanks,

Eric

I believe that they were 2 inches... whatever came with the amps. I was concerned about the same thing, but there is actually a thick buffer behind there. Tigé uses the same thing to mount the factory clarion amps. overall, its a VERY solid place to mount amps! I'm putting in my cap, 1500 watt amp, and 2 down-facing 10's in front of the driver.

Ruune, I just put my 12 inch JL sub facing down towards the hull and it has some deep, clean bass. I was impressed with the results.

I have two 12's, one under the drivers legs and another in the storage compartment by the passenger. We have a 2001 21I and it bumps like non other. The only thing i have left to get is some tower speakers.

I mounted 2 12"'s at the drives feet (in the kick panel) and cut the holes with a better than average Jig-saw - that XL Panel is thick under there and except for the hole that the taps lines run through it's a pretty air-tight area - I've thought about using expanding foam to make it completely air-tight with the door shut but haven't done it yet and sounds fine and I run 2 batteries so as to not get stuck....

I put a 10 under the side wing seat next to the engine on my 22I. I took pics of the set-up this weekend and will post them tonight when I get home. I have one 10 in the drivers kick panel for 2 total. You could put a second 10 under the other side wing seat to make it 3 total. I have it firing through a 6X9 grill.

What is a good recomendation for a free air sub to mount under the dash in the factory location ?
