This one is of Warm Creek, Lake Powell from 31 miles high.

Warm Creek, up close (5,000 ft) This cove is where we call home with our houseboat each summer.

LP,
Won't that cove be under water when the lake rises to meet with Wahweap marina next spring? (assuming we get a good snowpack).
I did not realize that Warm Creek extended that far...is it boatable all the way to the end? I usually turned around before the bay gets thinner because my depth finder seemed to be 20 feet or so at that point.

One of our favorite places to boat is Bass Lake, just south of Oakhurst, California. Here's a picture of the lake:

Yes, that actually becomes a nice bay with a rock island in the middle. But the water level as to be near the full mark for that to happen. We have always gone to the back of warm creek, especially with the water level down, because not many people bother to go there. We have never had a problem with shallow water, it is still plenty deep enough all the way back to the end. At the end there is a big hill which makes it deep enough pretty quickly.

Another picture from farther out. The island when lake is near full is circled in red. The shoreline when at full pool is in blue (approximately) and the nice little canyon that forms with a little more water is in green. Sometime I'll have to take you there, it's really nice.
PS. I have a CT scan scheduled for Monday AM. I hope it's passed by then.

We like Castaic Lake in CA.
The lake lice have to stay in a small part of the lake next to the dam.
The rest of the like belongs to the boats.

That's interesting, do they limit the number of boats on the water?
Do other So. Cal. lakes have the same boundaries?

When Lake Mead was up I took the Seadoos to the sign that said Welcome to Grand Canyon National Park. Since I left from Echo Bay it was quite the long ride. Carried extra gas to ensure we had enough to get back to Temple bar. Back then there were quite a few shallow spots. Not sure if you could make it today

That is something that I've wanted to do with my Sea Doo's ever since I saw an article about it in a magazine, years ago. But I've never done it. I hope to try it sometime when the water is up. My brother went up into the Canyon, but I think that it is illegal for PWC to go up there now, not sure though.

Whitlock87's post of Lake Castaic reminded me of my roots in So. Cal. Here is a google earth view of my favorite place to boat (jet ski) when I was growing up.

Yes they limit the number of boats, but I do not what that number is.
Only on holidays does it get that full.
And no most lakes do not have the restrictions on jet skis like Castaic does.
Castaic is run by LA County. They only have one other ski lake (Bonellie park) and on that lake they won’t let boats and jet skis on the lake at the same time.
So boats go on even days and jet skis on odd days.

I looked at my house, and it still had my old roof on it.
I changed the roof back in 2004.

smachfam:
Yes, it does get choppy, especially later in the afternoons, when the wind picks up. At about the halfway point of the lake, the mountains to the west form a valley, and the wind can really whip through there. Best chances for smooth water are right after the lake opens at 8am. The water tends to be on the warmer side though, so even with the wind, it's nice in the water.

Being a geography major working with GIS in school right now, I'll atry to answer that. They are supposedly up to three years old, and some of them as old as five years. There are some areas that have brand new imagery though like the New Orleans area or the area of Pakistan that had that huge earthquake last year.

Here is one of my favorite finds on Google Earth. What the heck is this Delta Jet doing sitting in the middle of the marsh, and why is it so big. Maybe cause it is flying at 35k feet or so???

This is a spot we go to in the evenings or weekends and dont want to drive too far.
30 min door to door. Relatively small lake, cold mountain runoff water, but it can be good.

Most of it.... Where-rena is no longer a Tige dealer so getting my stuff from them has been painful. I recieved a bimini for a different colored boat a few weeks back but no mounting hardware. Then got the mounting hardware but it was not complete....then a correct color bimini and am still waiting for enough parts to mount it. Doesnt really matter at this point with season winding down. Would have been nice having it from July through Sep. though. Still havent gotten all of the warranty parts either. Guess I'll start over with another dealer.

Obviously its not working, Sorry I didnt know.
Bear Lake, also known as the "Caribbean of the Rockies" because of it deep turquoise blue color. Limestone mixes in with the water to give it this unique color. Bear Lake is a finicky mistress, it can be choppy on minute and as smooth as glass the next. It is at about 6000 ft above sea level and the water is cold, so the best time to go is in August/September. It's deepest point is 208 feet. I certified in scuba diving at this lake and went down 140 feet. It was very cold!!! The lake is split between Utah and Idaho. The Idaho side is very shallow along the shore lines and makes a great place to teach kids how to ski and wakeboard.
