View Full Version : Are there any slalom skiers that use Tige Boats???

Just wondering if there are any other people out there who use Tige boats for water skiing???? Seem like the majority of the users are wakeboarders, which is cool, but would like to see what everyone thinks the best (past and present) slalom boats are that tige makes, and made.
I have a 97 pre 2000 wt and bought in late October, I also live in Wisconsin and only skied behind it once before the lake froze. I'll have to say with the taps system the wake seemed awesome.

My wife and I both Slalom, we bought our Tige 2100i in 1999. The wake is decent for slalom, but not world class. The reason we bought a Tige was because the price was right (More boat for the money) and they are built to last. I have not had any problems what so ever. We have the 350MPI 315hp merc engine and it has never failed to start on the first turn of the key. Hope to hear more from other Skiers out there.

I slalom with my 2002 22i all the time. It does a great job! I probably am 60% wakeboard, 40% slalom. I have run the course with it and it does just fine. Not quite the same as my old Prostar 190, but I can run shortline with it at 36mph. It took some time to get used to the little bump going over the wake, but it was more of a mental thing than anything else. I would think that Tige could almost get both the 21i and 22i certified by AWSA, but due the sheer size and weight of these boats its just not possible.

I'm glad to hear about other slalom skiers myself. I have just purchased a new I Switch and can not wait for the ice to melt (NH). I have never even been on a wakeboard but I am going to buy one and try it but my passion is skiing

My family has skied behind a 1997 22v for seven years. While there is a small wake to deal with for skiing, the lake our summer home is on requires a larger boat to manage the water during non-ski hours. My boys also wakeboard so the 22v offers the best of all worlds. After seven years and minimal issues with the 1997 boat we just ordered a new 2004 22v and are excited to continue our family committment to tige boats.

I have a '98 2100(21i) and the ski wake is almost as good as a Prostar 190 when you get up to 36mph and at least 28 off. Slower than 36 and a longer line and its a pretty good bump.

I ski behind my 1999 2100v Ltd. I'm a much better skier than wakeboarder.

I have a 72" HO Magnum Competition ski w/ wrap bindings. What do you guys use?

I have a 2000 21i and I really like to ski behind it. I usually ski at 15 off. The wake isn't a bad. I use 67" kidder classic and ski the coarse when we can put them up.

I have a 24ve and the wake is not bad at 34 -36 mph, anything less than that and it's hard to keep your ski down.

67 HO Fusion w double hi-wraps. I only rode the plank once this year, but the wake behine the 22Ve was nice as compared to the I/O we traded out of.

Im am a tige dealer I ski on a HO extreme 72 inch , I have skied behind every model we currently build however the best wake I have ever skied behind was the 1992 2000 comp .

We have a 1995 fslm comp and the wake is amazingly small. My son learned to ski at a ski school that uses malibus and he says the wake from our boat is way superior to the ski school wakes. It can even be "fine tuned" for a skiers speed requirements. Even though we are amateur skiers, the smooth wake and great ride of the boat are much appreciated.

That "locker" is about 70" and can also be used as an ice chest. It is about 6"-8" deep. I keep my sac pumps in mine.

Close, the fiberglass is cut out in a rectangle, and there is a plastic drop in. It is the same material that is under the jump seat up front. That one can also be used as an ice chest. I said it was 70", but I just measured and it is only 63". Big enough for a couple of sixers, or my sac pump either way. It has a lock on it too, to keep prying hands off the beer.

Thank you, it's a great boat. Spharis is right about the size of the locker. The locker opens to the rear ( must be latched when towing). The locker is a cast plastic insert and provides easy access to the top of the gas tank when taken out. It holds small skis but i use ours for ropes, towels, anchor lite, etc etc. The skis go in the gunnel pockets along each side. FIC.... that invite sounds interesting, i'll e mail you and get the particulars.

FIC,

Do you own the Fortes dealership in Largo. I seen your website. I will probably call you when I get into some things I need to do to my boat. Is you shop located north or south of Bryan blvd.? I used to work at AMP on 118 ave years ago. I can't figure out where 114 ave is. Give my some landmarks. I used to live there up until 1993, got transferred. We used to ski on lake Seminole.

Fortes is just north of Bryan Dairy on the east side of 66th st. That is where I bought my boat this summer. Like I said, let one of us know if you come back for a visit and you are more than welcome to get a tow.

Its not to bad. I do ski through a course 4 to 5 time a week and i like it. Its very flat on the outside not a very good rooster tail at 22 off, but alot of boats are bad at 22 off. All the guys i ski with really like how it handles through the course, i just wish the rooster was softer

I ski behind my '00 22i through the coarse. 15' off @ 36 is about as good as my tank gets. Still a sizeable bump and rooster, but nothin' a real man can't handle.:D To be honest, I've never been down to 22' off.

My stick is a 69" HO Vengeance w/ Approach plates.

Two Saturdays ago, coming back across the wakes from 3, I felt my back just go. It's "gone" before, so I didn't think to much of and just kind of cruised the rest of my pass and set up for another. Rounding 1, I knew I was in trouble and just hung on untill I was out of the coarse. When I went to pull my ski off, I realized just how bad my back had gone out. I was barely able to get back in the boat. I managed to drive for everyone for the rest of the day, but it wasn't fun. That night found me on the couch full of beer, pain killers and muscle relaxers (thank god for previous injuries). The following Monday at the chiropractors found 15 verts. out and 5 ribs askew. I've just started feeling like a normal person in the last 2 days. It's nice to be able to turn your head.

I live 15 min west of charlotte and used to pass it twice a day when I taught at NTI in Mooresville (exit 36). Always wanted to get on that lake but never could find a landing. Someone told me about one, but when I got there, all i found was a 2 lane country road that ended up in the lake

They are trying to shut it down because of all the new house's going up wright now, but the more people that back it they will not mess with it what style of Tige do you own?

FIC, The next time we get down to Fla I will let you know and we can hook up.

chpthril & DevinH, we still have a course setup on Belews above Winston Salem. That maybe a bit far but I would mind seeing you guys run the coarse. I haven't skied at all this year because of my back. I am still trying to get it right. I was doing something stupid that put me out. I am hoping to get back out next year. I think my coarse days are over. I don't need to go through this again. I will probably put my boat up in couple of weeks. I haven't been able to use it in the past 2 months.

Tige 2002 - you out there? Your 95 fslm looks an awful lot like mine. Mine has a black main panel with dark blue fading to light blue stripes below the black. Burgandy trim lines. Blue accent panels on the interior with burgandy piping. I installed a TAPS system on it and let me say that even though the bottom config was not designed for TAPS it still very effective. Been doing slalom (66" Kidder 7000), barefoot and trick skiing behind it since I bought it new. I ski a lot behind a friends 2006 Malibu LXI and I don't see a lot of difference at 35 off/36 MPH (Open water of course) (Wish I could do that on the course :( )

I still enjoy skiing, our Tige 2300V wake is pretty decent above 32 mph, TAPS at 2 or 3, nothing like a true ski boat but way better than my deep V that I had before.

However, I am like Nickypoo. My back is always hurting and its always a trip to chiropractor after a few days out skiing, but its worth it!

Hi John, yup still out here. the paint on ours is a solid blue panel with small red and blue stripes below it. the interior has red piping with blue, gray and white panels. Its Mercruiser powered and is bone stock with 760 well maintained hours. I guess they could be ordered any way the customer wanted back then? We use it for skiing and long rides on some of the bigger rivers here in fla. What i really like about the boat is the way it rides in a light chop ( like a caddillac). for long trips we cruise at 25 MPH and burn just under 5 gallons an hour giving us 5 miles per gallon. Better than most outboards! They really are great boats

Tige 2002, I guess mine is a baby compared to yours in terms of hours. Got close to 400 hours on mine. Lots of cruising time in a lake in The Adirondac State Park and lots of slalom skiing in between. It's cooling off up here in Connecticut. Changed the oil and filter last weekend, put antifreeze in the block, fogged the engine, waxed it and the trailer, vacuumed the interior, put it's cover on and towed it to the winter storage building till March :( . I agree, it's been a good boat.

John, that is a sad story indeed. I imagine that in the spring when you take the raps off, its like finding an old friend in great condition and ready to go. Here in Florida, its pretty much year round. In fact the summers are almost too hot. Last weekend we went on a 50 mile trip with the neighbors down the St Johns river. Went to two really beautiful natural springs to go swimming and wound up the day at a bar/ restaurant on the waterway............... ok, ok i'm rubbing it in now.

I own a 2006 20i. I am an average novice tournament slalom skier and think it is a great slalom boat. I ran my personal best this year behind it (1@32off 34mph). I have see a friend run 3@38off 34mph behind it. Chris Rossi can run 41 behind it. It would also be a great wakeboard boat with a tower but I did not put one on it yet. I have several pictures of it at:

http://new.photos.yahoo.com/griff1008/album/576460762323393855#page1

More info on my boat is also at http://www.namg.net - Search brokerage boats and look for 20 foot boats.

I will be getting the 2007 20i if I find a good home for this one.

Yes! That was Ski Paradise in January of this year. Every slalom skier should visit this place at least once. Everyone is treated like Royalty. Great villa. Great ski site. Great coaches. The guest coaches that week were Will and Elaine Bush, owners of Shortline Lake in Sacremento CA. All the other guests were great as well. Four were from Hawaii, two from Iowa, two from Seattle. I have since visited and skied with two of them in Iowa, met one for a ski week in Charlston SC and visited Will and Elaine and skied a tournament at Shortline Lake.

It realy was a blast! I'm going back to Acapulco before the end of the year.:)

Not really reasonable if you are looking at only price. This is a luxury vacation you can not get this anywhere else.

All included: pick-up at the airport, room in the villa, food all week cooked by chefs, all the water skiing you want, coaching, transportation where ever you want to go for an alternative to skiing, luxurious lounging at the villa around the infinity pool or hot tub, mingling with waterskiing people that you may never get to, the list of aminites goes on and on.

Check it out.

Tige 2002, a sad story it is. And you are correct, in late March when I bring my boat home it is like reaquainting with an old friend. Yesterday I soothed my sadness by buying a 2007 Harley Sportster. That will keep my adventurous juices flowing till it snows. Then what will I do?

We are in Vernon CT, just east of Hartford about 13 miles. Most of my skiing is on the Farmington River near Bradley Airport.

Congrats on the Sportster!!! I have a year 2000 and like it very much. When i lived in Conn. we used the winter for prettying up our bikes and then risked our lives on the icy roads early in the spring to test em out!

I rode a 1982 Kawasaki 440 LTD for 30K miles and decided to step up a bit. Sure is a world of difference. Ice skating on my Sportster???? I don't think so.
