Is it enough with the 1000# ballast and people with the gear reduction? Thanks.

Yes it is more than enough power.
the 315 could do the job too.

315 + synchrotec does the job fine....335 will be plenty.

Could someone explain to me the advantage of gear reduction?I figure it all comes down to prop pitch no mater what your transmision is.

well i'm not sure what gear reduction is, but if it is what is sounds like, if you reduce the gears, then it would make the engine turn slower to make the prop faster? Would be my guess. The it would make it seem like you have more power? Maybe I"m close

The synchrotec is a 1.46 to 1 gear reduction allowing the boat to accelerate faster, but it also allows you to swing a bigger prop which is a 14X18 rather than the standard 13x13 allowing you to only lose a couple of miles per hour on the top end.

Hope this helps,
