On a recent lake trip, i encountered some slack in my throttle cable. I had it floored and it only crept forward. I would put it in reverse and it crept backward. I noticed what I thought was a tensioner at the end of the cable. Does this have something to do with an automatic adjustment of the throttle cable or will I have to have some service done to correct it?

Do you have PerfectPass? If so, you might want to check for loose connections.

Yes, I have perfect pass. What does that have to do with it? Is it part of the problem?

I was under the impression that there is no adjustment you can make on a throttle cable, just have to replace them.

If you find out differently, please let me know.

I found out that it is part of the Perfect Pass system. It is a self adjusting tensioner that is designed to control the throttle, much like cruise control in a car.

That's why I asked. I had it installed on my boat recently and one of the wires came loose and the tensioner stopped working.

I also know that Perfect Pass will not allow you to go over your set speed, so that's another possibility. Try turning off the Perfect Pass and see if you have the same problem.
