2010 RZ2 Ballast Options?

Just got a 2010 RZ2!
Does anyone have experience with the RZ2 "Surf" package which has 600# on each side? (250 factory bag below the floor and a 350 connected so it fills up after the 250). And what TAPS settings are used to get the best surf wake -- I'm guessing the max (8) but wonder if something less might be better.
Or is there a better upgrade than adding the 350's on either side? It looks like you could be 500 additional in those compartments.

The 600lbs on the surf side that Surf/Pro option offers, will give a nice surfable wake, but will leave you begging for more. :D

For TAPS setting, that will very with speed and weight (both people and ballast), but typically a good starting point for that boat is TAPS around 3-6 and speed 10 - 11 MPH.

For rear sacs in that boat, the ideal sac would be our Custom Enzo style "L" shaped sac, but that would take up the under-seat storage when filled.

The next best fit would probably be the W714 Mastercraft X2 rear sac. It measures 32x18x20 and should give you 455lbs+ on the surf side on top of the factory 250lbs.

Another possibility would be the W719 Jumbo Surf. It's a huge sac and could give you about 800+ on the surf side, but I feel it's 50" length will stretch out under the seats too much and want to get on the stored skies.

When we have only only 3 people in the boat, we fill the front stock (400lbs) add a 400lb in bow area floor, fill the stock ballast on the port (250lbs) fill your custom port locker sac (550) and then add another (400lb) on the rear port cockpit floor. So that gives me 800lbs in the front and about 1200lb in the back port area. Speed 10-11, Taps 3-4. 1 surfers, 1 passenger and 1 driver. When we have more people, I just delete the cockpit sacs as needed and I have not lost a bunch of storage space.

The good thing about those is, being custom, we can put the ports in about any location we need.

We've been running the RZ2 at Taps 8 and 9.6mph and seem to have a good wake with the total 700# (est) in the corner.
Everyone here seems to use a much lower taps setting but when we "accidentally" start at Taps 2 (after water skiing) the wave is small. Any ideas?

As you add more weight, you will find that the TAPS needs to be down some to clean/adjust the wake. So for the small amount of weight you are currently running, TAPS on 8 is fine.

I have found, taps above 3 is about useless on my boat.

Ragboy, super stoked after yesterday and put an extra 750 in the corner and taps at 3. The rub rail dropped to the water and WOW what a difference in surf wake size. It is hard to fall out of that wake. I appreciate your tips on the sight. I will have pics Wednesday night.

Can't wait to see the pics. Yes, the great thing on the RZ2, is that with that setup, it not only is a bigger cleaner wake, but it has lots of push.

Could the rear sacks be replaced with say 750's or maybe like 500's instead of the other ones that come with the surf and pro package in the rear and then could there be bigger sacks to put in the front? just curious

You could put in any sac you want, but it would not be a plug'n-play and you would have to rework the factory system to convert it back to the base level setup. Otherwise, you will have to go with a custom sac that has the mating ports to match up with the Surf/Pro level ballast setup.

Gotchya! A 750 in a 22/24 RZ/Ve will fill to about 600+, but would need to be either manually filled or plumbed in as a stand-alone sac it it was used in place of the 350# factory surf/pro rear sac.
