I'm getting a high pitched whining sound through my tower speakers with the engine running. The pitch goes higher as the engine revs up. The speakers are being driven by a Kenwood 7202 amplifier connected directly to the battery switch. The Kenwood head unit is connected to the power on the instrument panel.

Any ideas?

im not an expert or anything, but, it sounds to me like you have a bad ground wire some where.

That's what I thought, but they're telling me I need some sort of noise filter between the head unit and the amp. I guess I'll check both.

I would check your power wire runs and your speaker wire runs to make sure they are not crossing over or running along side any other power wires. This can cause the whinning you are hearing.

As delongheavyhaul said, check your grounds, Ideally run them right back to the battery.

If none of that works, then a filter might help. These things are usually difficult to pin down.

Thanks! One of my thoughts was to ground the head unit to the same ground as the amp, which does run directly back to the battery on a completely different circuit than the rest of the power.
