I am replacing the original tower on my 98 pre 2002 with a different one but am having trouble removing the factory tower bases from the fiberglass. i have removed the main nut from underneath and unscrewed the screws from on top. I have tried tapping with a hammer from underneath and on top but not budging. Does anyone know if they are glued in or if they are just stock from years of use. i am just trying not to damage the hull. any thoughts..

I'm thinking about replacing my tower as well. What tower did you go with, and let us know how it goes. I'm sure it would be a big help for us others considering a replacement.

Sampson Razor or Switchblade are great towers. They are expensive but worth every nickel. 22' or less Razor looks good. If over 22' Switcblade is a neat choice.:02:
Sampson Sports Towers look great and don't annoy you with rattles etc. Thank you State Farm:D

I removed my original tower from my 99 21i not sure if they are the same??
Anyway, I had the same problem and ended up rotating the mounting brackets out. After the tower and retaining nuts/washers were removed I just inserted a metal rod (you could use a screwdriver) into the machined hole where the tower hex nut goes and rotated the entire bracket out.
Let me know what you go with...I ended up just sanding mine down and repaining it red to match the trim.

I will see if it will spinn out. I taped it lightly with a hammer in every direction already and it never budged. I'll take another look.
The old tower lost most all of it's paint and wobbles and squeeks. I have a universal tower off another boat i was going to use that i know was sturdy and looked descent. If i cant get it out i will repaint and try to tighten up the old one. But i have to get something looking better as i have put in all new interior and buffed out the jelcoat. so the boat is looking pretty good except for the tower. Well I have to do a little work on the trailer also.

Bakes5...Thats hella sharp. Looking at ordering mine the next couple of weeks. does the tower collapse down as easy as it looks on their site?

Yep. Folks down easily. Haven't had to do it yet but the one time I tried it out it went pretty easy.

The Razor fold down very easily. You rotate your racks and remove a screw on handle on both side of tower.> The supports then allow the tower to collapse while the supports fold into the boat. You basically bull the supports towers you and then the tower will come down and you will need to put a little back pressure to slowly lower.
Putting back up is relatively easy in reverse direction. If you have speakers on the tower you will have to lift that weight plus some of the tower weight. I can do mine with a pair of Wetsounds Pro 60's by my self.
It is a major improvement over my original Tige E Series tower.
My wife and daughter can raise and lower as a team.
Insurance covered my replacement but if I needed a new one I would go with the Sampson products again.
