Our First Problem

Well we finally had our first problem with our 22i today...only about 10 hrs on the boat too...We rode for about 3 hrs in the morning, took it back to the marina ate, went out again, as we were going to find a spot to wakeboard, the boat starts beeping and the engine shut off, we let it sit for 5 min....Turn it on, we go for about 10 min, the same problem happens...The gauges went crazy too....let it sit for 15 min...almost drift into land right before we get it started...go about 12mph, its working fine, my dad hits 3 big wakes and the boat goes crazy again shuts off, we get it going again and get it back to the marina goin like 7mph...I dont think it was electrical because the radio worked, but I'm not sure. Any Ideas? Maybe a lose wire or something?

We talked to our dealer, he thought it was a loose wire to the alternator, and since the engine is so powerful, once the alternator goes out, the 2 batteries cannot power the engine...hopefully thats it and we will have our mechanic check it out tuesday

The dual batteries can more than power the engine, computer, and injectors. Consider that your batteries will deliver in excess of 100 amps for probably 30 minutes with no problem. The alternator probably is no more than 80 amps, and that must power the engine and charge the batteries. The actual current draw of the engine is not as great as one might think.

I suspect that it is a loose wire, but is mor related to the computer or the ignition system or a loose ground on the system.

Your dealer will be able to find the problem.

Is it a Merc 350 MPI? If so, it sounds identical to a problem I was having with the ignition canon plug. Mine did the same thing, hit a big wake and the engine would die.

Look on the back of the engine, opposite side from the belt, and you will see a wire bundle coming into a plug (about 1.5" in diameter), it may or may not have a hose clamp on it. Start your engine, then jiggle that plug to see if your boat dies. The plug is right under the distributor on the Merc 350 MPI.

It was actually figured out to be a faulty ignition switch...Stuart, the best Tige dealer, is overnighting a new one to our marina, because they don't have Tige ones in stock...Thanks
