By having a sub under the drivers dash is it really loud? Im thinking about putting on there but i dont want to be blown away, atleast not all the time. So whats the verdict to loud or just right? Im thinking about putting a kicker comp 10" or an apline type R 10" there.

Gardyloo03 - I have a Kicker Solo Baric L5 - 12" sub under my dash and it is fine. It can give you a good foot message at the same time. This is my second boat with a sub under their and I wouldn't place it anywhere else.

I agree with Ddutcher. This is my second sub under the dash and I would prefer it there to any other alternative. I have a JL 12W6 there now that I used to replace a Boss marine 10 inch sub. Even with the 12 I don't feel 'blown away'. Bass acoustics are such that the orientation and location of the speaker is less important than with the other speakers. I like it there because it looks cool, seems to be a ready made box, and it is out of the way. Anywhere else you put it will require a sub box or a lot of effort to get it there.
I put a chrome cover on it and get lots of complements.

i've got the clarion 10 in the foot space and a 10 marine bazooka under the right front gull wing seat. Not too loud; juuusssttt right!:p

We have a 10 Inch JL Audio W3 V.2 Sub, and then right next to it is just the clarion speaker. It hits really hard when we want it to, or we can turn it down all the way. I think a 10 inch sub is the way to go.

When cutting that hole i have heard that there is a template that is already started on tige's is that true? or do i need to create one?

Gardyloo03 -- That is true, however you will need to peel the carpet to find it or just put it where ever you want.

I have two Rockford Fosgate 12"s under my dash and they are fine. One thing you may want to consider that will give you the bass tuning you are looking for on the subs is remote bass control.
Hope this helps.

Jpretti,
How'd you fit two 12" subs under there? You can see from my pic it's already pretty crowded. I also have a heater mounted just on the other side of the sub so I couldn't mount the sub any higher above the floor.

I will post some pictures after I pick up my boat later this week. The stereo in my new boat will run you out of there. I love it, it's like being at a live show.

I've got 2 Alpine 1041-D Type Rs downfiring under the dash, and a bandpass box w/ the outer port coming our right in front of the driver's feet. Its crazy loud.

jpretti:
We were at Stateamind a couple of weeks ago and one of my sons wanted to take your boat with us. He really liked the black, shiny gel coat.
When we saw it, they still hadn't hooked up the tower speakers. I bet it'll be awesome.
However - I personally don't think I could handle 2 - 12" subs. My head hurts just thinking about it

When putting the sub under the drivers dash, do you need to put an enclosure on the back of the sub inside the compartment???
Ruune

yes, unless you're using a free-air sub, like the factory clarion sub.

I am sure the size of the box relates to the size of the sub, so what would you suggest for a 12" generic sub?? I assume that this compartment becomes useless once you put the sub box inside...

I have a 12" Punch mounted under the drivers helm in that location and it doesn't sound very good at all. How do I tell if my sub is a free air sub or not. I think that might be my problem. If it is not, how do I go about building a sub enclosure to fit the back of the sub?

The punch subs are not for free air aplication you could build a box or for the same price buy a Kicker comp 12 which is marine grade and drop it in the hole because its free air capable. They are about 89 bucks.

Thanks Gardy,
Do you think that my Punch amp will power the new Kicker? It is only a 200 watt sub?

I bought a box and mounted it to the wall behind the sub. If you use a box make sure it will fit in the door of the compartment, the door is alot smaller than the compartment.

Pony It might be okay the rms on a kicker comp 12 is 150 watts and max is 300 so if you are within that range you are probably okay.

I'm trying to picture how I would go about making the enclosure for the sub. How do I secure it to the wall? Will someone please help me and assist me in doing this project. Thinking about using a 10" sub. Thanks, Adam

I made my box out of MDF and covered it with marine carpet. I attached it to the back of the wall were the sub is located with a small corner bracket and a short screw.

you could build out of stock 3/4 in plywood. the mdf may go to peices if it gets wet. Course you could glass in the box if you want....

This may be to simple of a solution but you can buy a box in kit form from Walmart for about $35.00 and all you do is glue it together. It is carpeted with the cutout for your size sub. As long as it fits through the hatch, you will be in luck. I am considering this option when I put in the sub. Good luck...

dont forget that you need to waterproof your boxes! If you dont, they'll absorb moisture and fall apart.

Good point, but how do you waterproof the felt????????
Ruune

coat the wood underneath the felt. epoxy or truck bedliner works well.

Thanks for all the replys. I had a local shop custom design and install a box. They did a really good job and only charged me about $100. He had to put the box together inside the hatch....I guess its not coming out. He did water seal the wood and then carpeted over it. The carpet is a great match for the boat carpet. He also worked on my two amps and let me tell you the stereo sounds great. Thanks again.

What size is the template that has already been started by Tige?

Damn, I hope you said thank you and went back with a case of beer. Thats a heck of a deal. I wouldn't want to put a box together in that small hatch, especially for $100.

Seriously! That is a deal! I was quoted anywhere from $275-$325 for a box built in there!

TigeDuner, the size of the box really depends on the sub. I would suggest an enclosed box, not ported. You are probably looking between .75 cubic feet to 1.25 depending on the sub. The compartment really doesn't become useless. I have a JL 10W6V2 with a box in the compartment and we just put all of our orange life jackets in there. You will still have some storage space.
