View Full Version : Tinting my boat's windows?

Hi, recently had a friend who lives in a fairly large lake community recommend getting my windows tinted on my Tige 24Ve. I'm guessing his recommendation was based on making the boat look better, and not on anything else. Has anyone else done this, and what are your thoughts for or against this. Thanks for your input.

I bought my boat with tinted windows. Depending on the boat color, I think it can enhance the looks, but I think it can also make a nice clean boat look to tacky. If you don't get a good tint job your tint will fade and turn purple (3m stuff lasts the longest) or bubble and that really will make your boat look like crap.
As far as functionality, it reflect sunlight, so your dash doesn't heat up as much. My dash is black, so it really helps a lot there. The tint will effect your visibility, especially around dusk, I just pop my head over the windshield when needed.

X2, or when it is overcast, I tinted mine but went way to dark on the tint (LIMO), stripped it off and haven't re-tinted it, I am still pondering the idea though of re-doing it.

My windows are tinted and it makes the boat look great, but it does cause a pretty big glare

I have thought about this many of times and because of the glare is the reson I have not done it.
However:confused: maybe using a lighter tint there would not be as much glare.

We have 20% looks great, no glare at all and helps protect the dash from direct sunlight.
How may of you have your truck windows tinted? You can see just fine out of them right, the boat is no different. What about sun glasses? I see just fine with my sun glasses on.

The sun reflects off the white dash. When I put a dark towel on the dash it makes the glare go away. When the glare is really bad I just look over the window. The tint was already on when I bought the boat. I never would have thought of tinting a boat. Gives it a good look. Maybe mine is too dark. When I wear sunglasses it seems to make the glare worse. Not bad when the bimini is up.

I have tinted my windows with limo and love it. Helps a ton with the glare and it does make the boat look great. I agree though at dusk it does get a little dark but that is an easy fix with looking over the windows

Wear Maui Jim's and ditch the tint, my two cents.

That looks great! I may have to tint mine next year.
How much does that Samson tower wobble?

My buddy had his tinted 20% on the front windows, and 5% on the sides. It makes it look blacked out from most angles, but still allows you to see when driving. Looks sick

G- the 20% looks great, I like that. I think that is what I would do. It is a even medium.

I test drove a centurion with tinted windows and hated it. It was overcast that day which did now allow great visibility through the tinted windows. If I had ended up buying it I would have immediately tore off the tint. I guess it would be nice when its sunny but that is what sunglasses are for! If you do it, I would not go too dark with it.

actually it is not to bad considering the weight of the speakers. Looking at putting a set of 60 up there as well

This thread is further motivating me to tint. Been meaning to for awhile.
I always drive sitting on the bolster and looking over the window, so no visibility issues (except hard rain maybe).

Now that I can see what my boat would look like with tinted windows and a Samson tower I may have to say bye to the wobbly E-Series and tint the windows.
