What do you think of the 98 pre2100?

This will be my first boat ever thinking of purchasing a 1998 pre 2100. Is this a good boat?

I am gotten into wake boarding a lot this summer and decided to get my own.

What should I look for? This is the one I am looking at

I have a 1999 2100i, very similar boat. Mine had 145 hours on the engine when I bought it a few years ago. Knock on wood, but I really haven't had any issues with it other than std. preventive maintenance oil changes, impeller, etc.

How many hours are on the engine?
What type of maintenance has been done?
Any known issues the either need to or will need to be taken care of?

A few specific things, for that model, that I can think of. The nose of the boat sits very low to the water line. It will take on water over the bow until you learn the proper driving technique. The bezels on the gauges may start to separate from the gauge itself. That year the boat has a wood subfloor and wood stringers.

Other than that just do the normal boat /engine checks. For sure, do an on the water demo ride! That is a must! It looks like it is in good shape from the pictures. It should be a great first boat.

I have a 98 pre2200wt and love it.When I put it in the water in July at Powell I had 804 hours on it.I have not checked since we got home.We have had great luck with ours.
We are starting to out grow the wake.We have no ballast what so ever.That will change before next year.I have no intention of trading it off yet.
A good paid off boat needing ballast and perfect pass VS a huge boat payment.No brainer.
For a fist boat if the price is right that one would be great.Just dont expect an 80,000.00 with out some work.
We have been very happy with ours.

Well I am going to go look at it in person tomorrow and if it looks good test drive it this weekend.

12K is good. I would have guessed about 15-16K. Let us know how the inspection and hopefully the test drive go.

I'm the owner of the 97 in the Accessory section. That boat looks more than a bit like mine, same color, etc.

A couple of things, get the engine hours, have a mechanic do a compression check on the engine, check the brake operations on the trailer. I note the trailer is galvanized, so double check if the boat has ever been run in salt water (the usual reason for a galvanzied trailer...) If yes, the value should be discounted significantly. Salt kills everything. Watch the latches on the rear storage section, if it's like mine, it is a very poor design and there's nothing like having that puppy pop open at 65 mph.

I would second Team Allen's comments, these boats do sit quite low in the water, and you will take a few waves over the bow while getting the driving curve up to speed. Make sure your bilge pump works! Otherwise, these are great boats! Good Luck:cool:

I noticed the Galvanized trailer too, but I noticed it was in Utah. I didn't think about the Great Salt Lake. Does any one boat in the Great Salt Lake?

Well I looked at in person yesterday, looks good the guy has owned it since 2000, the interior on the motor cover had a few blemishes/nicks but over all not bad, you cant really see it in the pictures but the haul is pretty yellowish not white any more. The TAPS/Wake plate isnt working, some one told him it was the hydraulic pump, But what ever it is I know it can get it figured out/fixed

I dont think any one ever has motor boats in the great salt lake ( its VERY shallow). Sailing is very popular on the lake and full-service marinas are available at Antelope Island and Great Salt Lake State Marina on the south shore. However, the lake is shallow (average depth about 20 feet) and even moderate winds can cause rough water. http://www.utah.com/stateparks/great_salt_lake.htm

I test drive the boat tomorrow and have talked him down in price even more....

Small repairs, or even a motor over haul, electrical work dont really worry me. I am a BMW certified tech and pretty sure I could figure anything on this boat out. I probably should do a compression check but I know they are a PITA and if it's that low or bad it should show up on the test drive.

Well Drove it today, loved it. Pulled nice and hard I was kinda shocked how low these sit in the water could get a little scary in a rough storm.

Agreed on a final price of 10,500 I feel like I got a really good deal, and the previous owner was super nice. I go pick it up tonight, hopefully I will have time to take it out Sunday all day.

Not bad for my first time out, was a good day until I was parking it behind my gate and one of the tire hit a 2X4 and slashed the side open... :mad

At least it happened at home so I didn't have to put the spare on.
