View Full Version : Your car will not float when you cut the boat away from the trailer!

This weekend at lake Austin my buddy calls me and tells me to take my time getting back to the ramp to pull out, seems as though someone had an accident.

They were pulling their boat out when they realized they had a flat tire, so what did they do? Well why not just jack it up here on the ramp with the boat on the trailer and change that bad boy? Wave came, boat pulled back out, off the jack and down the ramp we go. In this crappy cell phone pick they were cutting the bow strap from the trailer, that was the only thing left holding up the tow vehicle at that point.

I try really hard not to laugh because accidents happen, but sometimes the stupid people deserve it! :D

Wow, jacking your vehicle up on the boat ramp with the boat still connected and in the water, that is brilliant! I have had my share of goofs on the ramp but this one is taking it to a new level! What ramp was that on Austin? Just think, with the holiday weekend coming up we have plenty more "stupid" on the ramp in store.

Ok, I better quit making fun or I am going to jinx myself...

If you are standing at Emma Long Park looking at the boat ramps, this was the south most (left) ramp on the south side of the volleyball nets. It was about 8PM.

Actually, it looks like they floated past the end of the pier and it gets pretty deep pretty quickly. They're probably in a good 10'-12' of water headed to 20'. It looks to me like their vehicle is barely touching bottom in the front and starting to drag down the boat with it.

How do you get a flat on the boat ramp?

Timmy!

I'm sure it was a NO WAKE zone. So they are not at fault. The govt is here to help you, because you are not capable of helping yourself. :P

Yeah, the no wake zone at that ramp is about 30 yards from the shoreline. Lake Austin's basically a river that's not all that wide, so it gets pretty rough right there.

I like the dudes that are standing on the trailer w/o life jackets as they're cutting away the boat from the vehicle.

I think that would have made the grade on America's Funniest Home Videos. What a classic! :D :D

Didn't they put the vehicle in park...and the emergency brake on?

Doesn't quite make sense to me.

I'm with you on this one, if a wave pulled the boat back into the water then the tire had to have been under water, rendering it "un-seeable" right???

This kind of a drift sock to slow the boat down in current and wind???

Yea, I was thinking the same thing......how could a roller pull a boat, trailer, and SUV into the lake? Seems there is more to this story perhaps.

hahahaha!!!! Yea, but I'm sure you'd understand.

This is funny and all, but man that has to suck for that family. It's going to take a while to recover emotionally from this one.

That won't do you any good when you jack up the rear tires

Still, one tire is on the ground and once the jack breaks there will be two tires on the ground. Seems like there would need to be a lot of force to take a truck in that deep......but I guess stranger things have happened....... and why not just push the boat forward and unlatch it? Why the cutting?

Clearly you don't live like a wally. Please don't try and understand their ways....they are ancient and mystical.

Even as the first reed boats were making their way up and down the Nile....there was a wally, rowing his boat into oncoming traffic. Getting his anchor line wrapped around his foot, etc.

They are never to be understood, only mocked and laughed at!

Something similar to this happened at ramp on the east coast of Florida.

However it was a yellow Corvette attempting to recover a Sea Doo that had taken on water.

The ramp is frequented by sportman whom launch their fishing rigs and despise PWC riders, so inevitably one of these sportman watched the events unfold, photo documented them, and then later logged the location of the submerged Corvette on the GPS after positing upon the local forum.

(I searched for the thread but couldn't locate it.)

The photos clearly show the vehicle underwater near the end of the pier.

Found the link..

However not sure if the pics will load, work server shows the red x.
